Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following position tenable in the Ministry of Health.


POSITION: Incinerator Operator

Grade: D
Number of Positions: Eighteen (18)
Responsible To: Senior Technical Officer


Job Summary

The Incinerator Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining incineration equipment used for the safe and efficient disposal of waste materials. The incumbent ensures that all operations comply with safety protocols and environmental regulations while maintaining optimal performance of the incineration system.


Main Duties

  • Operate and maintain incineration equipment safely to ensure efficient burning of waste materials.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment issues to prevent downtime and maintain operational reliability.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on incineration equipment to ensure functionality and compliance with environmental standards.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and operational performance of the incinerator.
  • Receive, handle, and load waste materials properly into the incinerator using appropriate tools, procedures, and safety measures.
  • Sort and record waste materials to be incinerated, maintaining detailed logs for tracking and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate fuel records including daily usage and deliveries, and advise management on fuel needs in liaison with Health Inspectors and Administrators.
  • Coordinate with other staff members to ensure smooth and proper functioning of the incineration plant.
  • Ensure proper disposal of ash and gas by-products generated during the incineration process.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in and around the incineration facility.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental guidelines to protect personal health, colleagues, and the environment.
  • Stay informed about new incineration technologies and be willing to learn advanced methods for improved efficiency.
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies such as equipment malfunctions, fires, or other incidents, taking appropriate and timely action to ensure safety and prevent damage.

Job Specification

Minimum Qualification and Experience:

  • Certificate in Motor Mechanics, Fitting and Turning, or Electrical Installation, plus a minimum of one (1) year of relevant working experience.
