Key responsibilities:
- Perform technical engineering tasks associated with the field of marine electronics, autonomous robotics and general technologies;
- Assemble and test electronic systems, sub-systems, laboratory-based design and construction;
- Execute schematic drawings and printed circuit board designs;
- Perform fault-finding, repairs, testing and servicing of analogue and digital electronic equipment;
- Provide general support to qualified engineers and technicians;
- Report on technical and administrative documentation;
- Procure components and perform general administrative tasks;
- Service and pilot existing robotics platforms.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
- A senior certificate (Grade 12) and must currently be enrolled for a National Diploma in electrical engineering (Light Current);
- Must have completed S1, S2, S3 and S4 theoretical blocks or must currently be busy with S4;
- Proficient in user interface, microcontrollers and embedded and high-end software;
- Proficient in installation, instruction, commissioning and wiring interfacing of electronic equipment;
- Must have an interest in general technologies, e.g. mechanical design, 3D rendering, etc.;
- Hands-on practical approach to technical construction;
- Willing and able to work for extended periods on research vessels at sea (Antarctica, local and international waters);
- An awareness of and interest in the environment and ocean technologies will be an added advantage.
