Ilitha Labantu is a social service and educational organisation with a specific focus on addressing violence against women and children and supporting those affected by it. This is accomplished through individual and family counseling, workshops, skills training and empowerment, and acting as a trusted advisor in government and community processes. The client base is particularly focused amongst women living in townships and rural areas of South Africa.

Ilitha Labantu seeks to appoint an Accounting Clerk to be based in South Africa.

This is a full-time one year contractual post. The successful applicant shall undergo a four months probationary period.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of the organization’s finances amongst other things
  • Manage staff payroll and staff benefits
  • Liaise with management on a regular basis to provide advice related to all financial aspects of the organisation
  • Ensure that monthly management accounts are produced regularly
  • Bring to the attention of management material liabilities including contingent liabilities
  • Maintain regular monthly finance meetings to review the organisational and project financial status
  • Prepare financial statements at the quarterly Board of Director meetings
  • Prepare and present budgets including presentation to the Board of Directors
  • Prepare funder and organisational audits
  • Present management accounts to the Board of Directors at their quarterly meetings
  • Ensure that financial reports required by funders are prepared and distributed on time
  • Ensure regular compliance with the requirements both finance related statutes and internal policies and procedures. This will require awareness through reading etc. of legislative and local and international accounting practice developments and changes
  • Maintain and develop financial policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory changes and evolving organisational requirements
  • Maintain the organisation’s chart of accounts to facilitate the production of meaningful financial reports for both projects and the organisation as a whole
  • Maintain and develop existing and new financial systems
  • Provide regular feedback, including performance reviews to staff to enable their development within the organisation
  • Develop and implementation plan for the finance department
  • Submit all the necessary documents and requirements to SARS
  • Coordinates with, and assists the Auditor during external audits
  • Assists the administrative and technical assistance in maintaining a quarterly inventory of office equipment, supplies and other office materials
  • Performs other tasks and functions as and when required by the organisation

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in accounting
  • Minimum of four years’ experience working in a financial or bookkeeping position in NGO’s
  • Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with senior management, funders, auditors etc
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both oral and written
  • Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Pastel Evolution
  • A strong sense of responsibility and urgency and the ability to deliver regularly on time
  • Experience with accounting for foreign currencies
  • Strong human resource management skills
  • Must have their own transport
