JOB TITLE : ICT SUPPORT OFFICER

GRADE : G

RESPONSIBLE TO : ICT MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY
To contribute towards the availability of the LAN / WAN infrastructure, Servers and client workstation platforms and Application, database and network services infrastructure for ACMTS.

MAIN DUTIES
1.0 Network Administration
1.1 Administers and supports different types of networks: LAN, WAN, MAN, Virtual Private Networks, Intranets, Extranets.
1.2 Server installation & management: troubleshoot server problems
1.3 Creates and manages network groups, uplink workgroups to other networks ensure communication on the network.
1.4 Implements and manages network connectivity: Configure DHCP for the network; Configure the DNS (Domain Name Server) for network resources; troubleshoot network connectivity.
1.5 Implements and manages access to shared folders.
1.6 Implements and manages access to shared devices e.g. printers, faxes etc.
1.7 Implements and manages access to Web Services: configure Web and FTP services, control security to services, monitor web service activity, maintain the web services.
1.8 Implements and manages remote access to server resources: Configure for dial-up, VPN etc access; monitor remote access activity.
1.9 Monitors user activity in the server environment and performs software upgrades / troubleshooting.

2.0 Desktop Support
2.1 Monitor the performance of desktop software installations manually/ automatically.
2.2 Performs software upgrades / troubleshooting.
2.3 Implements and Manage file systems i.e. manage access to shared files, manage use of off-line files, manage file encryption etc.
2.4 Administers hardware devices and drivers: control access to printers, trouble shoot device drivers.
2.5 Implements network services correctly: configure LAN connection, internet
connection, email services; monitor firewall activity; implement browser security settings.

3.0 Help Desk

3.1 Receives and logs support calls.
3.2lnitials problem diagnosis.
3.3 Identifies / Isolates problem causes i.e. ACMTS application, Desktop
applications / operating system, database, network etc.

KEY OUTPUTS:

  1. Network

2.1 Effective maintenance of network server environment including physical security measures,
2.2 Effective network groups created and operational.
2.3 Appropriate configuration and network connectivity maintained.
2.4 Disk storage, disk performance and distributed file system optimised.
2.5 Well managed and appropriate access arrangements (e.g. server resources, shared folders, shared devices, Web Services).
2.6 Reliable server operation with effective backup and recovery arrangements.

  1. Desktop Support

1.2 Successful desktop software installation and upgrades.
1.3 Effective investigation and resolution of system software and hardware problems.
1.4 System performance monitored and optimised.
1.5 Appropriate management of the desktop environment.
1.6 Network services correctly implemented

  1. Help Desk
    2.2 Support calls answered promptly and logged efficiently.
    2.3 Accurate initial diagnosis, problem and cause identification.
    2.4 Problems referred to appropriate support person.
    2.5 Production of useful technical articles for helpdesk user guidance.

JOB SPECIFICATION

• Degree in Computer Science/Information Systems plus two (2) years’ experience in ICT field

■ Knowledge of Networks/Operating Systems (Network and Desktop).
• Ability to prioritise and work on own initiative when required.
■ Ability to work flexibly and as part of a team.
■ Skills in areas as shown below:

Network support
• Analytical / Diagnostic skills
• Technical management skills
• Knowledge and expertise on server operating systems e.g. Windows 2003, Windows 2008

Desktop Support
• Problem elicitation
• Problem diagnostic skills

• This is an entry level position and does not have supervisory responsibilities

• The incumbent is expected to solve own work-related problems that may cause the Justice Sector or Judiciary to fail to meet its objectives. In addition, the nature of the duties requires technical diagnostic skills as shown above.

• The incumbent must have the ability to prioritise and work on own initiative when required.
