International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an independent, neutral organization ensuring humanitarian protection and assistance for victims of war and armed violence.The ICRC regional delegation in Pretoria is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the following vacancy:

  • Field Officer For its Restoring Family Links activities in South Africa

The purpose of this position is to support the implementation and monitoring of ICRC Restoring Family Links (RFL) activities.

Minimum required qualification & experience:

  • University degree or relevant professional experience.
  • Good knowledge of the socio-economic and political situation in the Southern Africa region.
  • 3 years’ experience in the field of social, political or economic sciences or similar.
  • Excellent command of English, and good command of the native languages of South Africa. Portuguese and French are an asset.
  • Adaptability and capacity to work in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment and to deal with new work-related challenges.
  • Good communication skills, in particular negotiation and networking skills.
  • Good knowledge and skills on computer packages.
  • Understands the three components of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement.
  • Knowledge of design, implementation and monitoring of projects (including budgetary aspects)
  • Good knowledge and skills on computer packages.
  • Developed analytical skills.
  • Prepared to travel internationally on occasion.

Function description

  • Conducts regular field trips across the country and cooperates with the South African Red Cross Society (SARCS) to build a Restoring Family Links structure and provides Restoring Family Links trainings to staff and volunteers whenever necessary.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships in the provision of Restoring Family Links services with organizations and other actors (migrant community leaders) outside the Red Cross Movement.
  • Contributes to the design and implementation of Restoring Family Links projects and ensures that Restoring Family Links programs implemented with South African Red Cross Society (SARCS) and other partners are running smoothly.
  • Analyses data and contributes to written internal reports; assists in institutional exercises relating to planning, budgeting and monitoring programs.
  • Develops and maintains contact with municipal/regional authorities, local/regional National Society branches, the local population, migrants, other stakeholders (United Nations, NGOs) and suppliers.
  • Receives beneficiaries (migrants, refugees) at the office and ensures a follow-up and adequate handling of all the collected tracing cases.
  • Oversees and manages the allocation of Restoring Family Links budget according to ICRC procedures.
