We have an outstanding opportunity for Human Rights Project Assistant with expertise in our Governance and Peace Division.  

The Human Rights Project Assistant will be assigned to undertake a range of tasks in connection with delivery of the Human Rights Unit (HRU) programmatic work, inclusive of research, advocacy and capacity development initiatives, focussing on thematic human rights issues across the Commonwealth as well as specific matters which may arise within a Member State.

The post-holder will be responsible to research and monitor human rights developments; assist in governance matters relative to HRU; deliver on specific projects, contributing to articles/publications/papers authored by HRU; strengthen and nurture relationships; and prepare responses to internal and external correspondence.

To be considered for this opportunity applicants must have completed a relevant post-graduate programme in a relevant field of study such as law, human rights, international relations, social policy or development studies. Applicants will also need to have between three to five years’ relevant experience (or two years’ relevant experience with a Master’s degree) at national and/or international levels in implementing and promoting best practice in human rights. Proven human rights research experience, and experience in project planning, development, delivery and reporting is required. You will also need to have the ability to work respectfully and effectively in a multi-cultural work environment and in a small team; and experience of working in at least one region of the Commonwealth.
