About the Foundation for Human Rights (FHR)
The FHR was established in 1996 to promote and advance transformation and human rights based on the new Constitution. The FHR is a human rights organisation supporting civil society organisations in South Africa and the region that implement programmes which promote, protect and fulfil human rights.
The FHR seeks to appoint a qualified individuals for various positions, based in Johannesburg.
Position: Human Resources Manager (Fixed term contract, Part-Time 3-day working week)
Responsibilities:
Human resource policies and procedures
Ensure that the necessary HR policies and procedures are maintained
Ensure the implementation of the organisations policies and procedures, including induction, supervision, performance management, grievance/disciplinary procedures, as well as staff training
Maintain HR files for all staff members, including current job descriptions
Maintain documentation for evaluations and compliance audits
Prepare and submit all documents/reports required by the Department of Labour
Implement and manage all employee benefits including medical aid and pension
Sage VIP/Leave
Maintain the Sage VIP System and leave management system
Conduct regular audits of leave
Manage all leave requests and discrepancies.
Recruitment and Onboarding
Advertise, recruit and short-list new staff positions as needed and prepare the necessary paperwork for the final interviews with appropriate managers
Implement psychometric assessment and work sample tests as required
Conduct reference checks on prospective employees
Implement the induction programme for all new staff
Performance Management
Coordinate and bi-annual performance reviews
Maintain records of performance review processes
Employee Relations
Co-ordinate disciplinary and grievance processes
Provide staff counselling
Staff development and wellness
Assist with the identification of staff development needs
Organise appropriate staff development programmes
Implement in-house training and support programmes where required
Oversee, direct and manage HR staff
Supervise and manage HR staff
Conduct regular performance appraisals and probation reviews as relevant
Other
Education
A degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial and Organisational Psychology, Labour Relations or related field.
Experience and Desired skills
At least 5 years in a senior management position, demonstrated leadership and management experience in a generalist human resources environment.
Experience working in an NPO/NGO would be advantageous
Computer Literacy
Demonstrated experience in establishing, managing and delivering human resources processes, procedures and projects.
Knowledge of Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Labour Relations Act, Employment Equity Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and effectively present information to Management committee, Executive management and Supervisory Board.
Ethical business professional with demonstrated strong organizational, leadership and management skills.
Demonstrated experience in establishing, managing and delivering human resources processes, procedures and projects.
Demonstrated experience and skills in performance management
Experience in working in a culturally diverse environment with sensitivity to cultural differences.
Ability to work as part of a team and adhere to deadlines and set priorities
Possession of a valid driver’s license for South Africa
Languages
Proficiency in English with excellent verbal and written skills
Proficiency in other South African languages both verbal and written will be an added advantage.
