Position: HSSE Supervisor
Job Summary
Reporting to the Human Resources Manager and Special Projects, the HSSE Supervisor will lead and manage day-to-day Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) operations of the company. The incumbent will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all health and safety requirements are met across Tholo Energy’s operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement transportation health, safety, and security programs and activities.
- Lead and facilitate incident investigations to determine causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure all sites, including filling stations, adhere to HSSEQ principles.
- Provide management with sound advice regarding HSSEQ legal requirements.
- Actively engage in communication to increase awareness and understanding of HSSEQ issues.
- Keep records of inspection findings and produce reports suggesting improvements.
- Record incidents and accidents, and compile statistics for management.
- Ensure safe installation of equipment and advise on specialist areas such as fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, machinery safeguarding, and occupational diseases.
- Ensure all employees comply with HSSEQ policies, legislation, and procedures.
- Lead and attend employee safety meetings, toolbox talks, and quarterly HSSEQ committee meetings.
- Ensure employees attend refresher training and meet regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular site visits and office inspections, and prepare reports.
- Undertake risk assessments for new or modified products or chemicals.
- Identify training needs and coordinate employee participation in HSSEQ training.
- Promote a proactive Health and Safety culture across the company.
- Review RRAs, journey plans, and rest stops annually.
- Track and record all breakdowns for safety analysis.
- Consult with other departments to ensure safety compliance.
- Conduct risk assessments before commencing any activity and ensure compliance by other employees.
- Compile and report identified defects to the Operations Manager for maintenance and repair.
- Investigate defects to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks to reinforce SHE activities on-site and in the office.
- Ensure all safety and lock-out procedures are understood and followed.
- Compile HSSEQ reports to communicate business performance in safety and compliance.
- Ensure all equipment meets safety standards to minimize risk.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and safety equipment.
- Regularly update HSE_MS and HSSEQ plans.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Degree in Health and Safety or equivalent.
- 3–4 years of experience in the oil and transport industry or equivalent.
- Strong interpersonal and people management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels — from shop floor to senior management.
- Transportation safety awareness.
- Understanding and interpretation of tacho-charts and tracking reports.
