Job Summary
The incumbent is responsible for making decisions regarding the financing and structure of a hospital, in order to promote health care efficiency. He/she must coordinate departmental reporting, ensure and participate in analysis of reports to determine the effectiveness of various departments and, to work to reach financial goals and maintain budgets.
He/she works to improve the efficiency of care, keeps up to date on laws, represents the facility at governing board, and ensures maintenance of the records of the facility services.
The incumbent is required to understand the hospital economics, labour relations, and human resources and have proven management skills. Because of the intense paperwork and staff interaction, it is important for the Hospital Manager to have strong verbal and written communication skills. He/she must also be able to work well with a variety of professionals, from doctors, nurses, and other stakeholders.
The incumbent must demonstrate problem solving and technical skills to find creative solutions for staffing and administrative problems and follow advancements in technology. The incumbent is accountable to members of the Executive Management team and is responsible for:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinating the health services of a hospital
- Managing the recruitment, selection, appraisal, and development of staff
- Oversee the day to day management of the Hospital
- Implementing new policies and directives set by the Board
- Liaising and negotiating with medical and non-medical staff internally (often at the most senior level) and with external stakeholders
- Working towards ensuring quality and value for money for patients
- Setting budgets and maintaining finances within tight constraints
- Planning and implementing strategic changes to improve service delivery
- Attending meetings, writing reports, and delivering presentations to a variety of audiences
- Ensuring the smooth and timely financial audit process
- Sitting on committees and representing the views of the departments and teams
- Handling communications and corporate affairs
- Managing premises, catering, cleaning, and security within the hospital
- Managing procurement of equipment and supplies and inventory management
- Managing information and financial data, analyse and measure financial performance
- Ensuring that the recommendations of the auditors are implemented accordingly
- Planning for provision and development of major projects
- Establishing systems of accountability for all professionals, including productivity benchmarks, performance measures, and controls for the entire hospital
- Representing the hospital in cases of litigations in consultation of the Legal Advisor and legal representatives of the hospital
Qualifications and Experience
- Master of Business Administration with at least three (3) years’ experience in health services management
OR
- Degree in Business Management or Finance with at least five (5) years in a managerial position in financial management, human resources
- Three (3) years’ experience in Health Services Management is a requirement
