The Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC) was established by an Act of Parliament as a parastatal. The LNDC Act No. 20 of 1967, as amended by LNDC Act No. 13 of 1990 and LNDC Act No. 7 of 2000, mandates the Corporation to: “initiate, promote and facilitate the development of manufacturing and processing industries, mining and commerce in a manner calculated to raise the level of income and employment in Lesotho. The LNDC through its subsidiary, The Basotho Fruit and Vegetable Cannery (BFVC) invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Horticulture Farm Supervisor.
PURPOSE
To manage the production of horticultural produce using hydroponic system, maintaining consistent input supply to the cannery, the Vegetable Produce market and the export market. The incumbent reports to the BFVC Production Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- To facilitate setting up of the hydroponic farming systems.
- To manage the hydroponic farming tunnels pilot project at the site to its full operation.
- Facilitation and implementation of Good Agricultural Practices in production – to prepare for the wider market access.
- To maintain the farm in a state of art condition for purposes of demonstration of the set farming methods and knowledge exchange.
- To organize and facilitate technical training during the rollout of 100 tunnels to the districts.
- To collaborate with the Cannery Production manager on an ongoing basis to understand the cannery inputs requirements
- The incumbent will be expected to develop a Plan of Action for the LNDC Management to ratify and endorse.
- To produce monthly reports for LNDC Management.
- To prepare and manage a budget for operationalizing of the tunnels.
- To carry out recruitment and management of staff.
To supervise the Security personnel ensuring safety of all company property/assets.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma in Crop Production or Agronomy, with a specialty in Hydroponic production
- 5 years should be in a knowledge and use of hydroponic systems in Horticultural production. Must have knowledge of Global GAP requirements.
Term of contract
Three (3) years fixed-term performance based contract.
