Job description

The HIV Technical Specialist shall work as the subject matter expert to support the development of an HIV Standard Treatment Guidelines Application (STG App). He/she shall be the point of contact responsible for communicating policy, technical, operational, and other relevant matters between software developers and the national HIV program. He/she shall ensure the final product meets its intended purpose.

The key duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Respond to the STG App development process where technical expertise in HIV management is required and support developers as needed.
  • Facilitate validation of the STG App to ensure that all the relevant information has been uploaded and is presented in a logical manner easy for users to interact with.
  • Support the project team in providing technical support to ensure that national protocols, standard operating procedures (SOP), and guidelines are followed during the process of App development.
  • Support the HIV program in communicating key design requirements such as content and functionality of the STG App to the developers.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and conferences from project inception, throughout the project life until project closure as required.
  • Provide support in planning and organizing M&E related activities such as baseline, midline and end-line evaluations, project launch, User Acceptance testing and related activities.
  • Support the training of users, including managers, supervisors, clinical staff, and others on the use of the STG App.
  • Conduct supportive supervision and monitoring of field activities to track the project’s progress.
  • Contribute to tracking and documentation of programmatic achievements, lessons learned and success stories and their implications to the program.
  • Write and support the production of high-quality technical reports and documents.
  • Build and manage institutional relationships and partnerships with key national and international stakeholders to develop coordinated technical approaches in implementing project objectives.
  • Attend coordination meetings with the government, donors, partner organizations, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Perform other relevant duties assigned by the Project Manager.

Education and skills

  • A bachelor’s degree in nursing, pharmacy, medicine, or a related field.
  • Experience in the clinical management of HIV and HIV prevention.
  • Minimum of five years of HIV programming experience.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task with minimal supervision and able to travel on short notice.
  • Excellent oral and written English skills are required.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Registration with a relevant registering authority is required.

Employment conditions

Note that this is a limited contract of 12 months with a probation period of 3 months and the possibility of an extension. The successful applicant will be stationed at the UHIC offices in Maseru but will be required to engage in fieldwork training App users. Applicants must be Lesotho citizens
