SAMRC – HIV PREVENTION RESEARCH UNIT
(DURBAN OFFICE)

The following post is available in the HIV Prevention Research Unit at the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) in Durban. This is a 3-year contract.
The SAMRC’s HIV Prevention Research Unit requires a suitably qualified and experienced Chief Officer: Finance. The Chief Officer: Finance is needed to provide financial and administrative support to the Unit, including Financial Reporting, Financial Analysis, costing of activities, compilation and monitoring of budgets for the unit. To ensure the unit is compliant with PFMA, SAMRC Policies and funder regulations. The job also involves the managing of working capital between the Clinical sites and head office.

CHIEF OFFICER: FINANCE:
BCom Degree in Accounting or similar relevant qualification or higher
5 years’ experience in Finance and Accounting
Knowledge of and experience in the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Supply Chain Management (SCM)
Proven track record in financial management, and preparation and monitoring of large amounts of external funding (e.g. NIH, USAID, EDCTP)
Advanced experience in MS Excel, proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint
Excellent communication skills and a strong analytical mind are pre-requisites, as the role requires communication with sponsors and collaborators both locally, nationally and internationally
Salary is R379 853 per annum.
