Letšeng seeks to engage a qualified Mosotho professional with appropriate skills and aptitude to fill the position of HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER (PATERSON BAND CU).

PURPOSE: To assist Management in the development, implementation and maintenance of the safety and health management systems, policies and standards of Letšeng Diamonds and compliance with legal HSE standards during the implementation and, at Corporate Social Responsibility Investment (CSRI) projects.

MAIN OUTPUTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Compile and implement safety and health management programme
• Ensures Safety & Health Compliance with national legislation and national & international standards
• Develop and compile induction manuals and reviews for CSRI contractors’ site-specific inductions and advise on revisions
• Compile Safety & Health Policies and Codes of Practice and establish and define safety aspects of work procedures and practices to establish acceptable standards of safety outputs and performance
• Conduct and review baseline, continuous and issue-based risk assessments throughout the projects
• Carry out Letšeng compliance Health and Safety audits on all CSRI projects under construction
• Conducts and participates in internal and external Safety & Health audits

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• Degree/Diploma in Health & Safety
• At least 4 years of relevant experience in Safety and Health in a medium to large enterprise
• The candidate must be in possession of a valid Driver’s Licence not less than two years old
• Working in the construction industry would be an added advantage

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
• Knowledge and understanding of the legislation and regulations inclusive of legislative and regulatory bodies with respect to Safety and Health within mines and community projects
• Knowledge and understanding of HSE principles, theories and best practices
• Sound knowledge and understanding of the mining and/or construction industries and the risks involved in the various elements to enable compilation of risk profile
• Sound knowledge and understanding of the Safety and Health work methods and techniques applied in the execution of outputs

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS
• Registered with the Ministry of Labour and Employment as a Safety and Health Practitioner would be an added advantage
• The candidate will be required to undergo Letšeng’s Mine Pre-employment examination of fitness

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
• Six months fixed term contract
