VACANCY: HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER
Location: Kao Mine
SITE WORX (PTY) LTD invites applications from suitably qualified individuals for the position of Health and Safety Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish a Health and Safety Management System, including food safety, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and best practices within the hospitality industry.
- Conduct food safety and health & safety inspections, implementing corrective measures where necessary.
- Investigate complaints, incidents, accidents, and infectious disease outbreaks to identify root causes and establish preventive measures.
- Maintain a site risk register and advise on the best methods to manage health and safety risks.
- Monitor refrigeration, food storage, preparation, and serving practices, offering technical guidance.
- Ensure that all staff receive proper training on food safety practices.
- Develop and implement fire prevention and emergency procedures.
- Align internal practices and processes with client requirements and industry best practices.
Key Performance Areas
- Maintain high food hygiene and safety standards in the kitchen.
- Monitor compliance with food safety procedures in production areas.
- Ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping.
- Address food safety issues and implement solutions.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 22000:2018 and ISO 45001:2018 standards across food production and the supply chain.
- Enforce food safety programs, company policies, and hygiene standards.
- Raise awareness of health and safety matters among staff.
- Verify implementation of safety controls in food storage, preparation, and serving areas.
- Report maintenance or replacement needs for food preparation equipment and tools.
- Assist with food safety audits and HACCP program implementation.
- Conduct supplier audits, evaluate suppliers, and complete audit reports.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of HACCP, ISO 22000:2018, and ISO 45001:2018 food industry standards.
- Analytical skills for evaluating and interpreting information.
- Flexibility and agility in handling workplace challenges.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
Qualifications and Experience
- National Diploma in Environmental Health, Food Science, Food Quality, or Food Safety.
- A related qualification is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer programs.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Registration with the Ministry of Labour as a health and safety practitioner is an added advantage.
- Experience in inspecting food premises and evaluating HACCP systems.
