The NMF contributes to the making of a just society by mobilising the legacy of Nelson Mandela, providing public access to information on his life and times, and convening dialogue on critical social issues.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation seeks to appoint a Head of Mandela Day & Outreach to be based in Johannesburg.

Job Purpose: Oversee Mandela Day as an international campaign. Develop strategy and operational plans for Mandela Day flagship projects and programmes. Work closely with other NMF departments to ensure optimal impact of research and analysis. Leverage stakeholders and promote the campaign to reach target audiences and beneficiary communities most effectively.

Reports to: Chief of Programmes at the Nelson Mandela Foundation

Direct Reports: Mandela Day Analyst and Mandela Day Coordinator Main Duties:
Advocate for systemic change – implement NMF’s theory of change in relation to Mandela Day
Undertake and oversee research outputs in relation to food security (Mandela Day focus area) with long term-term advocacy elements
Pilot models and strategies which are potential social justice game changers.
Innovatively form and maintain strategic partnerships with global stakeholders.
Leverage the resources and capacity of external stakeholders to deliver on the Mandela Day programme
Optimize the use of approved resources and account in line with NMF policies and legislated requirements where applicable.
Manage team performance and deliverables
Requirements:
Post Graduate Qualification in Business Studies, Development studies or related field
Project Management, Stakeholder Relations and Public Relations or Marketing certificate
Seven (7) to ten (10) years professional experience in Programme Delivery, Community Engagements, public campaigns and or Stakeholder Relations
Good working understanding in the field of nutrition, food security, public health, community development, public advocacy campaigns, or related fields
Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and working with partners to implement projects/programs
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with diverse partners and audiences
Superior interpersonal and leadership skills to collaborate tactfully and effectively with partners and staff
Experience developing, analysing and holding expenses to program budgets
Excellent computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Google applications, including Zoom and Salesforce
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to meetings regularly, in various locations across South Africa
Proven experience with community engagements
Ability to work well under pressure
Fluent in spoken and written English and one other South African language
