Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Head of Department (HOD), tenable in the Teaching Service for Post-Primary Government and Church-Owned Schools across Lesotho.

NOTE:
All positions are open to both qualified unemployed teachers and serving teachers who have acquired higher qualifications.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Deputy Principal, the Head of Department (HOD) serves as the chief academic supervisor for all staff within their department or division.


KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Induct newly employed staff within the department or division.
  • Hold regular departmental meetings to discuss academic and administrative matters.
  • Ensure that the correct syllabus, as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), is taught.
  • Supervise subject teachers’ schemes of work, lesson preparations, homework, and marking throughout the school.
  • Prepare annual departmental budget estimates.
  • Ensure equitable distribution of teaching workload across the timetable and efficient utilization of teaching staff.
  • Organize and oversee the setting and marking of internal examinations.
  • Advise the Principal on the procurement of suitable teaching and learning materials.
  • Advise the Principal on appropriate entries for external examinations.
  • Mentor and guide newly qualified teachers, supporting them with teaching methodologies and reference materials.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have two major subjects in their qualification
  • Must have served as a Marker, Subject Panellist, or Examiner
  • Must demonstrate the ability to assess learners and predict performance accurately
  • Must have a record of excellence in teaching performance
  • Must be trainable, disciplined, and professional
  • Must adhere to all laws, policies, regulations, and the code of conduct of the Ministry of Education and Training
  • Must have no criminal record
