Job Purpose
The Head of Business Management is a senior strategic leadership role responsible for driving the development, execution, monitoring, and alignment of the Bank’s strategy. The role provides centralized oversight of strategy implementation, market intelligence, business performance, governance integration, and strategic communication.
This position plays a pivotal role in promoting sustainable growth, innovation, and organizational transformation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Execution
- Lead the design, review, and implementation of the Bank’s corporate strategy and annual business plans.
- Facilitate strategic planning workshops with the Managing Director, Executive Leadership, and the Board.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of industry trends, economic developments, regulatory changes, and competitive dynamics to inform strategic direction.
- Translate strategic priorities into actionable plans with milestones, KPIs, timelines, and responsible parties.
- Coordinate Bank-wide strategy execution to ensure alignment between departmental plans and corporate objectives.
- Monitor progress on strategic initiatives, identify bottlenecks, and recommend corrective actions.
Market & Competitive Intelligence
- Conduct continuous environmental scanning to identify market trends, emerging opportunities, risks, and threats.
- Benchmark the Bank’s performance against peer institutions in Lesotho and the region.
- Use market insights to support digital transformation, product innovation, customer experience improvement, and operational optimization.
- Provide strategic intelligence to guide decision-making by the Managing Director and Executive Committee.
Performance Management, Financial Oversight & Business Analytics
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive strategic performance management framework to monitor the Bank’s performance and drive strategic alignment.
- Track performance against corporate strategy, business plans, budgets, and key financial indicators (e.g., cost-to-income drivers, revenue growth areas).
- Work closely with Finance to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling for strategic initiatives.
- Assess the financial viability, impact, and return on investment of strategic projects.
- Evaluate performance of ongoing initiatives and provide recommendations for improvement or redesign.
- Ensure organizational performance reporting is accurate, timely, and supports sound executive decisions.
Governance, Compliance & Risk Alignment
- Ensure strategic initiatives align with regulatory requirements, governance frameworks, and the Bank’s risk management principles.
- Support preparation of Board and regulatory submissions relating to strategy, performance, and institutional priorities.
- Strengthen governance discipline by promoting transparency, accountability, and compliance with statutory obligations.
- Identify strategic risks and collaborate with Risk and Compliance departments to mitigate them.
Stakeholder Engagement & Strategic Communication
- Liaise with internal departments to promote cross-functional alignment and coordinated execution.
- Prepare high-quality strategic reports, Board papers, presentations, and briefings for the Managing Director.
- Represent the Bank in engagements with the Central Bank, government ministries, development partners, and strategic forums.
- Support strategic communication by ensuring clear dissemination of priorities, progress, and expectations across the Bank.
Leadership, Change Management & Organizational Coordination
- Provide leadership in the Bank’s transformation programs, digital initiatives, and performance improvement projects.
- Facilitate change management processes to ensure smooth adoption of new systems, structures, and strategic initiatives.
- Support collaboration across departments, ensuring cohesive execution culture and shared accountability for results.
- Promote a high-performance, data-driven culture across Lesotho PostBank.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in corporate planning, strategy, management consulting, or strategic leadership roles—preferably in banking or financial services.
- Proven track record of leading strategic initiatives, managing cross-functional teams, and delivering measurable results.
- Strong understanding of financial services, market dynamics, economic analysis, and competitor benchmarking.
- Experience interacting with regulators, government ministries, and development partners.
- Experience in institutional transformation or digital banking initiatives.
