Job Purpose

To lead, manage and deliver an integrated and independent Risk Management Function in order to enable Lesotho to seize opportunities in pursuit of growth, by managing Non-Financial Risks in a manner that balances the interests of clients and other stakeholders, while protecting the safety and soundness of the bank, ensuring the ethical standards are adhered to and maintained. To provide assurance on the control and risk status for the Country.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Contribute to the design and drive the implementation of the Risk Management Function’s specific Operating Model, capabilities, policies, processes, standards, regulations, core technologies / digital platforms and functional structures.
  • Lead and drive the implementation of the Risk Management Functional strategy across Client Segments and Client Solutions in the country. Monitor and maintain adherence to the Group Risk Non-Financial Risk plan.
  • Engage proactively with stakeholders and the environment at large to understand and manage non-financial risks within Standard Lesotho Bank. Lead and control non-financial risk management to ensure the country is prepared to withstand the test of any current and future non-financial risks by influencing the relevant stakeholders. Champions the culture of a responsible risk-taking organisation without compromising the future.
  • Adopt the data security standards. Localise the data model and provide additional risk function data requirements to support decision-making in-country. Set governance standards for Risk data quality and monitor this within the Country.operate. Manage the risk consequences of decisions made on behalf of Client Segments, Client Solutions and Corporate Functions.
  • Monitor and report to the Country Exco, Client Segments and Client Solutions Exco’s and the Head of Risk for oversight of all non-financial Risk Management, while maintaining independence and having sufficient authority, stature and resources for the effective and efficient functioning of the Risk Management Function.
  • Monitor and report to the Client Segments and Client Solutions Executive Management Committee any business strategy or plans that exceeds the Country risk appetite and tolerance that may result in a non-financial negative impact Conduct quality and governance checks on compliance with laws, bank’s policies and procedures on the various risk types.
  • Lead and drive a risk culture within Standard Lesotho Bank in order to provide clients assurance on the upholding of the highest levels of integrity and meeting all regulatory and reputational requirements across Client Segments, Client Solutions and Corporate Functions.
  • Drive a risk culture of transparency, accountability and consistency by using risk knowledge to support responsible decision-making within the country.
  • Implement and control the Standard Bank Group’s Risk Management policies and procedures for managing the non-financial risks that the bank might encounter.
  • Guide the Client Segments and Client Solutions leadership, Boards and Committee’s in terms of non-financial risk requirements and approach to ensure the Business Lines retain its licences to

Minimum Qualification and Experience

Qualification and Experience

  • Postgraduate degree in Commerce, or Finance or Risk Management or Information technology.
  • A Masters degree in Finance or Commerce or Risk Management, would be beneficial for this job.
  • CFA will give an added advantage
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in risk management preferably in managerial position
  • Knowledge and understanding of the regulatory environment governing financial institutions in Lesotho.
  • A good knowledge of risk management is a must have
