Position: Hatchery Department Manager
Job Description/Purpose
PURPOSE: Manage and coordinate the running of the commercial hatchery department to ensure the successful production of healthy fish through the Sanlei hatchery production facility that includes a land-based hatchery, nursery, and fingerling system.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Responsible for commercial production systems development, implementation and managing thereof.
- Facilitate and co-ordinate the commercial production of healthy fish in the hatchery Department
- Monitoring of water quality, feed quality and general husbandry conditions in the hatchery department that includes proactive biosecurity and fish health protocols
- Improve commercial Production techniques and SOP’s
- Optimum fish handling and grading activities
- General managing of the commercial Hatchery departments staff
- Upkeep of all commercial production systems within the Hatchery department
- Stock control, fish flow and product ordering for the hatchery department
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum National Diploma or a degree in Animal Science
or
- At least 3 years of experience with commercial animal production and animal husbandry in a production environment
- Advanced knowledge of animal farming techniques
- Proven ability to lead and manage a small team and to work as part of a bigger team
- Proven experience in the development and management of commercial animal production units.
- Team player and good communicator
Skills competencies & requirements
- Valid Driver’s license
- Innovative, inventive, and analytical, able to preempt, resolve problems and compliance conscious
- Deadline focused and able to make critical decisions under pressure while maintaining safety of the staff he is working with
- Good record keeping and planning skills and attention to detail and computer literate
- Proven record of ability to manage time and work to strict deadlines
- Willing to work during weekends and longer hours when required
- Fluency in English, written and spoken, driving continuous improvement
