Guild Cottage seeks to appoint a Senior Social Worker, to be based in Johannesburg.
Start date: As soon as possible
Reports to: The Executive Director Guild Cottage
The purpose of this role is to take responsibility for the therapy and care of the girls placed at Guild Cottage and support the Executive Director in the management of the centre.
Responsibilities:
Therapeutic interventions and placements
- Individual and group therapy sessions and house meetings
- Coordinate and attend psychiatric appointments
- Supervise IDP reviews
- Facilitate panels and new admissions and administer court orders and court appearances
- Facilitate the child’s return to the care of their families or other appropriate placements after treatment is complete
School Liaison
- Liaise with schools regarding the girls placed at Guild Cottage
- Ensure that the girls are correctly placed
Parent / Host / Volunteer Liaison
- Arrange and monitor contact between child and parent / host
- Coordinate and monitor volunteers / hosts wishing to be involved at Guild Cottage
Programme Manager
- Facilitate Strategic Framework for the Child and Youth Care Workers (CYCW)
- Coordinate schedules for the girls, including holiday programmes
- Ensure smooth running of holistic programmes
Leadership
- Supervise social worker, child and youth care workers and community worker
Administrative
- Manage all legal placements of children at Guild
- Record Keeping
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Social Work qualification
- Member of good standing with the SACSSP
- Stay up to date with development within the relevant field and areas of responsibility
- Unendorsed drivers’ license and own vehicle
- Additional South African languages will be strong recommendation
- Five to seven years’ experience, working with sexually abused children, providing support and counselling to the children
- In depth knowledge of the Children’s Act and to be familiar with the Social Service Professions Act
- Knowledge of the developmental approach and strength-based approach
- Five to seven years of therapeutic experience and report writing
- Experience in managing individuals and teams
- Leadership and management skills
- Communication skills (English verbal and written) and an African language is desirable
- Computer literate
- Strong planning and organisation skills, able to manage own workload and take initiative
- Trustworthy and reliable
- Valid driver’s licence and own car
- Ability to work under stress
- Team player
- Demonstrating confidence, and stature
- High energy levels
