GROUNDWOOD CHECKER (Scale C)
Sappi Ngodwana Mill requires a Groundwood Checker to assists the groundwood operator with the control of operations of the groundwood plant.
This role reports to the : Shift Superintendent Woodyard
The main responsibilities of this job are:
- Perform pre-operational checks prior to start-up by physical checks on the plant
- Inspect plant machinery during operation
- Investigate unplanned plant stoppages and alarm conditions and troubleshoot as per best operating practice using all trades required.
- Inspect chain and belt conveyors for misalignment, cracks, worn pulley lagging/ skirting/ scrapers, cuts, missing/bent docks, links and pins
- Check condition of all machine guarding before starting up an Isolate plant
- Relieve groundwood operator/groundwood log checker when required and licensed.
- Clear log and bark blockages on conveyor systems and clean bark build-up on sweep chain and bark chutes
- Perform related tasks during saw change
- Monitor log quality and verify that log loading contractor is feeding logs according to FIFO (first in first out) principle.
- Monitor and remove foreign material such as stones on conveyor system during plant inspection to prevent equipment damage and downtime
- Perform housekeeping and clean cameras
The ideal candidate should have:
- Matric (Maths and Science) or N3 Pulp and Paper
- 06 months experience in the Woodyard Section
