Position: Groundskeeper

Line Manager: Operations & Facilities Manager


Objective

This position is responsible for football field care, Biodiversity Stand and Amphitheatre care, and the upkeep of Kick4Life’s outdoor facilities. The role is responsible for all Kick4Life site and facility maintenance needs, including but not limited to: landscaping, grounds keeping, basic plumbing and electrical work, gardening, cleaning, and maintaining the interior and exteriors of all buildings.

These duties also include performing routine maintenance checks and attending emergency maintenance issues at the No. 7 Restaurant, the Hokahanya Inn & Conference Centre, Bophelo Gymnasium & Health Club, and all office buildings. Additionally, the position is responsible for ensuring the completion of projects and overseeing the upkeep of equipment and supplies.

Coordination of work with the team is imperative, as is the establishment of daily and weekly cleaning schedules, repair schedules, renovation projects, waste reduction improvements, safety inspections, and other duties related to broader organizational support.


Main Accountabilities

Area 1: Field Care and Landscaping
1.1 Maintain all Kick4Life football fields, including mowing and treating routinely to ensure optimal turf performance. This includes caring for the Biodiversity Stand and the Amphitheatre.
1.2 Prepare and line the pitches in preparation for matches, as needed.
1.3 Maintain the Kick4Life gardens to ensure their optimal health, including watering, fertilizing, and advising on landscaping developments where appropriate.
1.4 Maintain the appearance of the site, including sweeping pathways and entrances, keeping the site litter-free, and nurturing planted areas.

Area 2: Building Maintenance
2.1 Perform routine maintenance checks on all building spaces and attend to emergency maintenance issues at the No. 7 Restaurant, Hokahanya Inn & Conference Centre, Bophelo Gymnasium & Health Club, and all office buildings.
2.2 Ensure the completion of projects by other maintenance consultants where appropriate and oversee the upkeep of equipment and supplies.
2.3 Assemble and install Social Enterprise (SE) equipment and furniture to ensure maximum comfort and convenience.
2.4 Ensure responsible utilities use in SE spaces upkeep.
2.5 Conduct maintenance work on all Kick4Life facilities, including basic plumbing and electrical work, as well as maintaining interiors and exteriors.

Area 3: Equipment Management & Waste Disposal
3.1 Assist with preventative maintenance planning, including establishing cleaning schedules, repair schedules, renovation projects, waste reduction improvements, and safety inspections.
3.2 Maintain a register of all grounds equipment and schedule regular testing.
3.3 Store and maintain equipment to prolong longevity and ensure safety.
3.4 Advise on the repair or replacement of faulty equipment.
3.5 Conduct proactive waste disposal management on site.
3.6 Maintain and replace dustbins to ensure Kick4Life remains clean at all times.
3.7 Organize and manage weekly rubbish disposal to the dump site.

Area 4: Health & Safety
4.1 Abide by and enforce all Kick4Life health and safety procedures at all times.
4.2 Assist management with health and safety requirements, including auditing equipment and outdoor spaces, risk assessments, and method statements for work to be undertaken.


Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum diploma or professional trades qualification in Carpentry / Electrics / Plumbing / Building Management
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in groundskeeping and building maintenance
  • Experience maintaining grass football pitches
  • Experience keeping maintenance logs and inventories

Desirable:

  • Supplementary certification in a core maintenance pillar (e.g., plumbing)
  • Experience working as a technician/maintenance manager at a large institution
  • Experienced in maintenance control
