A rewarding position is available for a seasoned, energetic, Grants Business Development professional looking to make a meaningful contribution in their career. This exciting new role will position World Vision South Africa (WVSA) for anticipated grant opportunities with local and international organisations to change the lives of vulnerable children through our Christian values. The incumbent will build the Grant income portfolio by representing WVSA’s programmatic interests, leading the development of new and existing donors, coordinating and managing all aspects of the relationship process and grant giving cycle. S/he will manage and coordinate all components of the proposal development process in close collaboration with the WVSA team, providing guidance and leadership to ensure overall quality assurance.

Main responsibilities will include:

Relationship Management

You will represent WVSA’s programmatic interests to new and existing donors and local partners, developing, building and maintaining strong relationships that will position WVSA as a partner of choice for potential funders.  A strong networking focus will be a pre-requisite.

Grants Acquisition

Your well-honed marketing experience will be needed to; identify relevant upcoming funding opportunities through advanced intelligence gathering; and employ key market resources, strategic partnerships and appropriate proposal development tools necessary for pursuing targeted funding opportunities successfully.

Using resilient negotiation and influence techniques will be essential to manage positive outcomes with donors. Consequently, your broad understanding of donor needs and comprehensive proposal writing capacity will be important to lead and coordinate proposal development preparations and processes in close collaboration with technical & financial departments. Coordinating inter-dependent teams to work effectively towards a common goal therefore, is key to this role and will require practiced, result orientated approaches.

Quality Assurance, Compliance and Accountability

You will ensure the highest standard of compliance with WVSA standards and contribute to the grants body of knowledge, sharing proposal development lessons learned to promote executional excellence. 

Managing systems and tracking results are second nature to you as your attention to detail always looks to support effective grant compliance and positive audit results.

Your commanding facilitation skills will be used to coordinate project start up workshops, covering donor expectations as well as a range of tasks ensuring that all grants are started and managed excellently. This will necessitate the provision of technical support and leadership in strategy formulation, implementation plans, roll out of a Grants Acquisition and Management business plans, and the monitoring thereof.

Minimum education, training and experience requirements to qualify for the position:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, International Development, International Relations or related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in tracking, prepositioning, designing high quality grants with proven track record of successful grant acquisition from bilateral and multilateral donors
Experienced networker with strong skills in donor relations, negotiations and partnering with up to date knowledge of the donor landscape and trends in the humanitarian sector
Solid understanding of the full grant cycle and of grant compliance procedures for major bilateral and multilateral donors. Experience with other types of grant makers in the Impact Investing space would be advantageous
Proven experience and skills in project design and proposal writing
Must be highly proficient in use of Microsoft Office products
Highly proficient at written and spoken English
Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities
