Interactive Research and Development South Africa (IRD SA NPC) is a South African Section 21 not-for-profit entity and an affiliate of Interactive Research and Development Global (IRD Global), and has fully operational offices in Johannesburg, Pretoria (Gauteng) and in Durban (KwaZulu-Natal).

Main purpose of the job

Working closely with the Finance and Administration Manager this post will focus heavily on budgeting, compliance, and reporting and variance analysis functions . This position is responsible for assisting with the management of grant activities, including tracking and reporting, providing effective financial, accounting and reporting support services, aligned to USAID /IRD SA NPC policies to the USAID LON Project Management Offices and other key stakeholders

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Performs grant-related post award functions, including budget and expense analysis, periodic invoicing, financial reporting, and budget modifications
Monitoring of spending levels for grant funding to ensure appropriate use of funds and that funding levels are not exceeded and expenditures are in compliance with USAID and IRD SA NPC policies and procedures
Provide timeous advice on the development/maintaining of financial and procurement internal control systems
Ensure compliance with IRD SA NPC policies and Grant Fund rules and regulations prior to processing for payments
Identify and recommend cost savings initiatives for program activities and the organization
Prepare internal monthly financial reports for submission to the Finance and Administration Manager
Prepares internal grant financial reporting to programs for expenditure projections.
Prepares grant-related journal entries and subsidiary ledger transactions.
Perform weekly bank reconciliations
Responsible for payroll grant allocation analysis and reconciliation
Month-end and year-end processing in coordination with the Finance and Administration Manager
Analyze and explain budget variances and propose possible solutions to Finance and Administration manager
Review and monitor subcontracts related to USAID LON Project
Financial liaison for associated program reviews and audits.
Ensure that USAID LON disbursement and contract files are audit ready at all times, including the preparation of the Fund Accountability Statements (FAS) for the review and approval by Finance and Administration Manager
Assists in grant close-out process
Build and maintain authentic relationships with all stakeholders ensuring that all interactions are professional
Effectively manage work processes in order to maintain high levels of productivity
Effective self- management
Required minimum education and training

B. Com Accounting or equivalent

Knowledge and demonstrated experience in Advanced Excel, Word and Ms. Office skills, QuickBooks accounting software

Required minimum work experience:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in finance or donor funded environment
Experience working in a donor funded organization
Financial reporting experience, knowledge of federal grants and regulations, grants accounting and budget oversight preferred.
Ability to work under pressure
Strong analytical, presentation and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders Able to work independently and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Strong procurement background and experience would be an added advantage
Self- motivated
