About the Role:

Planeterra is the world’s leading NGO using tourism to impact community development. Planeterra helps local organizations and communities use tourism as a catalyst to improve people’s lives, protect their natural environments, and celebrate their culture. Established in 2003 by entrepreneur, author, and philanthropist Bruce Poon Tip, Planeterra has contributed millions of dollars towards projects in areas of social enterprise, healthcare, conservation, and emergency response. Between 2015 and 2019, Planeterra helped funnel over US$10 million into local communities through integrating 85 community tourism enterprises into the itineraries of our tour company partners, working directly in 56 countries.

The Planeterra team is searching for a dynamic, enthusiastic, and passionate Global Coordinator to join our team! The Global Coordinator will play a vital role in supporting all aspects of Planeterra’s communications, fundraising, and global programs, gaining experience working across various fields with diverse stakeholders. This is an exceptional opportunity for someone interested in developing their career in the nonprofit sector or in the responsible tourism space.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, have the ability to multitask, set priorities, take initiative, and work independently as well as a part of a team. This position requires exceptional decision-making, and organizational skills, and strong interpersonal skills to work both internally and externally with our partners.

What You’ll be Doing:

Fundraising and Communications Support

  • Support development and stewardship of corporate partnerships
  • Support curation of media content from Regional Program Teams, project updates and videos
  • Support the production of annual reports, impact reports, collateral pieces, and project status reports for the donor community
  • Execute timely fundraising tracking and reporting via online CRM database and general maintenance of Planeterra’s donor database
  • Monitor and update the Planeterra website as needed to reflect the organization’s operations and development strategy
  • Assist with planning and executing in-person and online events, as well as online fundraising campaigns
  • Advocate for and coordinate with community partners for media and other communication opportunities
  • Basic video editing at times

Global Program Support

  • Ensure timely and relevant communications for the Global Community Tourism Network in coordination with regional teams, including management of newsletters, social media posts and online training opportunities
  • Manage Planeterra’s online Learning Hub, including uploading new content, and coordinating with partners for translations
  • Database management of the Global Community Tourism Network, including preparing regular reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Draft and edit project agreements, contracts, and memorandums of understanding with the assistance of the Regional Program Managers
  • Support Regional Programs teams to ensure donor compliance, emphasizing clear communication across diverse stakeholders
  • Participate in weekly team meetings, set agendas, record and document minutes
  • Support research and onboarding of community tourism partners and strategic partners as needed by regional teams
  • Coordinate administrative and financial management of key projects

Other Administrative Support

  • Support bookkeeping, reconciling donations and expenses to Planeterra’s bank accounts monthly
  • Management of time tracking processes
  • Acting as Planeterra’s frontline communicator by overseeing the information inbox for Planeterra and the Global Community Tourism Network

Desired Skills & Experience:

Must Have:

  • Advanced organizational and time management skills
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of social media
  • Strong English language written and oral skills
  • Excellent understanding of Google Workspace with strong ability to learn and use new technology platforms
  • Superior attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness
  • Experience working cross-functionally and collaboratively in a multicultural team environment
  • Intermediate Excel skills
  • Ability to adapt to change
  • Motivated by a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn and be challenged
  • Completed Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Tourism, Marketing, Communications, International Development or similar)

Nice to Have:

  • Experience or strong understanding of working with communities in tourism (asset)
  • Fluency in Spanish or another language (asset)
  • Experience with database management, Canva, Mailchimp, video editing and website editing (asset)
