Liqhobong Mining Development Company (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Firestone Diamonds, invites suitably qualified, competent and results oriented Basotho to apply for the following vacant Position:
POSITION: Geotechnical Engineer
JOB DESCRIPTION/ PURPOSE
To formulate and maintain a geotechnical monitoring strategy for Liqhobong Mining Development Company Operations; to conduct slope stability analyses; to recommend safe planning and working procedures to minimise risk of slope collapse and/or rockfalls. To maintain a geotechnical final wall strategy and undertake final wall slope appraisals for mine limit control; to maintain good final wall integrity practices in place and any other related geotechnical functions.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- A four-year Honours degree in Engineering Geology or Geotechnical/ Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in open pit mining environment.
- Experience in Drill & Blast and Geotechnical Final Wall Control activities, and Prism Monitoring Systems would be an advantage.
- Light Vehicle Driver’s License.
SKILLS, COMPETENCIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to build up and manage systems and procedures for sound geotechnical engineering controls and practices.
- Advanced PC skills and computer literacy, including experience with standard geotechnical software packages.
- Attention to Detail, Problem Solving and Administrative skills.
- Successful completion of fitness to perform work (Medical examinations);
- Willingness to undergo regular integrity tests and Police clearance (No past or outstanding criminal convictions);
- Valid driver’s licence.
