Letšeng seeks to engage a qualified professional with appropriate skills and aptitude to fill the position of Geologist (Paterson Band CU).

PURPOSE: Reporting to the Senior Geologist, the Geologist will observe, collect and document geological information and data from Letšeng’s open pits.

MAIN OUTPUTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure that geological routines, including geological mapping of the ore body and drill chip logging, are being correctly carried out and that the data collection process remains accurate and relevant

• Ensure adherence to loading schedule, adequate classification and segregation of ore and waste to prevent dilution

• Produce daily, weekly, and monthly resource performance and reconciliation reports.

• Plan and coordinate core drilling activities and reporting thereof

• Perform quick core logging upon completion of each drill hole

• Generate and interpret size frequency distribution and grade–size distribution graphs as and when they are needed

• Plan and coordinate treatment of discrete production samples through processing and produce a report for each sample

• Carry out spiking on the treatment plants for efficiency monitoring

• Carry out density measurements for different rock types collected from resultant muck piles after every blast

• Attend to any other geological functions deemed appropriate for the role and that which may be requested by management for the effective functioning of the geology department

• Complies with all HSE policies and procedures

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• A 4-year Honours Degree in Geology or equivalent

• At least 2 years of relevant geological experience

• Knowledge of 3D modelling software and 3D geological modelling will be added advantage

• Light Motor Vehicle Driver’s Licence

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

• Sound knowledge and understanding of the work methods and techniques applied in the execution of geological outputs

• Thorough knowledge and understanding of principles of geology including mineralogy, kimberlite geology and ore deposit geology

• Knowledge and understanding of mining and treatment processes as related to grade control

• Attention to Detail, problem-Solving, and good report-writing skills

• People’s skills

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Candidates will be required to undergo a medical examination of fitness as per requirements
