Our team of Engineers supports the current operation and maintenance of Generators, and auxiliary systems. As a Resident engineer, you will be responsible for providing timely technical solution to the fleet of generators installed at the Eskom power plants. You will be accountable for resolving customer technical challenges and improving fleet reliability and availability.Essential Responsibilities:
- Do plant walk downs, including a comprehensive visual inspection of the plant on at least a monthly basis checking the correct operation of all accessibly parts of the turbine and auxiliary systems
- Advise on the required generator history recording, such as running hours and start/stops, etc.
- Record monthly all significant abnormal events, occurrences that occurred on the generator
- Offer advice when informed of an excursion on plant performance
- Advice, specification and provision of procedures to enable the client to re-commission generator plant and auxiliaries, particularly following major outage work, including attendance during return to service of generator plant to provide “on the spot” advice if so required
- Observed deviations from recommended procedures and good practices applicable to operation and maintenance
- Recommend scope of work for all major planned outages
- Determination of the maintenance requirement and the scope of work, prior to general overhauls, and specialist services required from the Engineer
- Identification and optimisation of spares to be held to support planned overhauls and other maintenance
- Compiling of technical specifications for plant operation and maintenance, including the recommended purchase of replacement parts
- Revising, monitoring and updating of relevant Alstom documentation, to ensure correct application of operating and maintenance procedures
- Communication channel to the OEM on technical matters and information required for the operation and maintenance of the generators
- Provision of information and documentation as and when required
- Carry out ad hoc audit reviews of operating and maintenance practices and report any deviations to the client
- Provide generator related training as per the needs of the client’s generator system engineers and the transfer of technology and know-how to enable the client’s system engineers to support the operating and maintenance functions
- Assist with compiling technical specifications for the South African refurbishment of generator components
- The Scope is also subject to mutual agreement between the Engineer and client
- Regularly informs the client about the fleet experience on similar generators supplied by the OEM
- Inform the client of the latest engineering designs and developments that may improve the plant design to the benefit of the client
- Be available for emergency consultation during unplanned generator failure incidents
- Provide detailed reports to relevant client representatives when requested to do so
- Resident Service Engineer Reporting
- A monthly report will be submitted by the Resident Service Engineer to the client
- The report shall include as a minimum:
- Comments on the technical status of the units
- Risks to production and long-term plant health
- Recommendation for performance improvement
- Defects
- Relevant Operating history

Anomalies (life impact scenarios)
Spares recommendations: - A report will be submitted subsequent to planned and unplanned outages
- The submission dates for these reports will be three months after a General Overhaul and one month after a Mini General Overhaul, Interim Repair and unplanned outage
- The report shall include as a minimum:
- Quality control issues and documentation
- Recommendation on refurbishments
- Planning issues
- Spares recommendations
- Life determining issues
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering
5+ years’ experience in Generator operation/maintenance/Installation
Experience in WT23S-0985 generator operation, maintenance, projects and Installation
Experience working directly with customer or equivalent knowledge or experience - Computer skills: MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel

Good team player, research and organizational skills, keen to learn, proactive attitude - Excellent communication skills, enthusiasm and commitment
- Must have valid authorization to work full-time without any restriction in the role’s location
Desired Characteristics:
- Must be willing to work off hours and weekends to support emergency issue resolution
