Lesotho Electricity Generation Company (LEGCO) is a statutory body registered under the Companies Act of 2011, registration number 70536, to manage electricity generation in Lesotho.
The mandate of LEGCO is to ensure that Lesotho is self-sufficient in its power supply, starting with the solar generation plant at Ha-Ramarothole, to ensure that base load requirements are met through local generation and to enhance the participation of the private sector in the electricity supply industry.
LEGCO invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Generation Manager on a fixed-term contract tenable at the LEGCO offices in Maseru.
Key Responsibilities
The Generation Manager role is positioned as a strategic leadership function within LEGCO, requiring not only technical expertise but also leadership and supervision skills.
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the key responsibilities of the Generation Manager will include:
- Construction Oversight: Supervise construction activities for Ramarothole Phase II Solar Project, while ensuring operational continuity and operational management at the completed Phase I solar plant.
- Operations & Maintenance Planning: Design, implement, and monitor comprehensive operation and maintenance plans for renewable generation projects to ensure efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.
- Security Management: Coordinate and oversee security arrangements for the plant, including integration of modern surveillance and risk management systems.
- Investment Promotion: Champion clean energy investments by engaging stakeholders, promoting renewable energy opportunities, and supporting national energy transition goals.
- Commercial Agreements: Lead negotiations and management of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Connection Agreements with the off-takers for LEGCO’s renewable energy plants, ensuring compliance and value optimisation.
- Maintenance Coordination: Collaborate with Plant Managers to prepare and oversee maintenance schedules, resource allocation, and materials management.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with private sector partners on the implementation of renewable energy IPP generation projects, ensuring alignment with national energy objectives.
- Infrastructure Integration: Facilitate integration of non-grid electrification initiatives with broader infrastructure development activities across the country.
- Data Management: Establish, maintain, and update a national database of renewable energy generation installations to support planning, monitoring, and reporting.
- Project Coordination: Coordinate project activities between LEGCO and other developers to ensure synergy and efficiency. Strengthen LEGCO’s role in advancing renewable energy investments and Mission 300 ambitions.
- Staff Leadership: Provide supervision, mentorship, and performance management of subordinate staff, fostering a culture of accountability and innovation.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following options:
Option 1:
- A Master’s Degree in Renewable Energy Systems, with at least seven (7) years of professional experience, including a minimum of five (5) years in a managerial position.
Option 2:
- A Postgraduate qualification in Renewable Energy Systems Development, with at least ten (10) years of professional experience, including a minimum of five (5) years in a managerial position.
Option 3:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, with a minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in the energy or related field, including at least five (5) years in a managerial position.
Preferred Experience
Expertise in the implementation of renewable energy projects will be considered a significant advantage.
