As an associated event to the 12th APFSD, it encourages children and youth groups with members who are 16-24 years old from the region to submit their innovative and scalable solutions to climate challenges under one (or multiple) of the subcategories below. They are also encouraged to make a clear connection to the theme of the 12th APFSD on “Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs for leaving no one behind in Asia and the Pacific.” Subcategories include:
- Ambient air pollution (SDG 3)
- Gender-responsive climate action (SDG 5)
- Green economy, such as circular economy and resource efficiency, green jobs, and sustainable tourism (SDG 8)
- Marine conservation, such as ecosystem protection and sustainable fisheries (SDG 14)
Generation Hope Goals will unfold in three stages to ensure comprehensive engagement and that participants are provided with the necessary support. Climate solutions will be scored using the following criteria: Uniqueness (10%), Feasibility (20%), Scalability (30%), and Relevance and Social Impact (40%) and the top 15 groups* will advance to the next stage.
- Stage 1: submission of the application form
- Stage 2: top 15 groups will present online to a panel of judges and to come up with a 1-minute video to pitch their climate solution on social media
- Stage 3: top five groups will be invited for in-person final presentation
*A maximum of two climate solutions per country will be included in the top 15 to represent the diverse perspectives and ideas from the region. The selection panel will deliberate on the final list of entries to proceed to the next round.
Experts from environmental organizations, academia, the private sector, and government bodies will be invited to be part of the panel of judges. Mentors will likewise be identified to provide participants with support in improving their pitches for the final round.
The final presentation will be held at the 12th APFSD and attendees of the forum, including policymakers, business leaders, and civil society representatives, will be invited to join as members of the audience.

*Priority will be given to representatives from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Viet Nam. Participants from other countries may be considered on a self-funded basis or contingent upon availability of additional support.
