The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is inviting applications for the position of General Services Assistant. The successful candidate will support the General Services Team in providing a productive, safe, and sustainable working environment, including office space administration, asset management, facilities coordination, and operational support.

Key Responsibilities:

Office Space Administration

  • Evaluate office space requirements for requesting divisions.
  • Coordinate office moves, meeting room changes, and workspace rearrangements.
  • Organize and oversee larger office relocations and contractor activities.
  • Prepare office layouts and floor plans.
  • Develop proposals for efficient office space utilization.
  • Support long-term office space planning.
  • Coordinate repairs, renovations, and infrastructure improvements with the UN Bonn Common Services Unit.

Asset and Property Management

  • Manage furniture, equipment, and other non-expendable property.
  • Maintain and track inventory records and prepare stock reports.
  • Process procurement requests for furniture and equipment.
  • Supervise receiving, storage, maintenance, repair, and replacement of assets.
  • Ensure assets are barcoded, tagged, and recorded according to UN standards.
  • Coordinate regular physical inventory exercises.
  • Maintain an electronic database of all non-expendable property.
  • Manage disposal of obsolete or surplus assets and liaise with vendors where necessary.

General Services Operations

  • Inspect buildings to ensure compliance with safety and ergonomic standards.
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors working on UNFCCC facilities.
  • Supervise mail distribution and local transportation services.
  • Support and replace the Associate General Services Officer during absences.
  • Assist other members of the General Services Team when required.

Sustainability

  • Support implementation of the UNFCCC Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Contribute to sustainability initiatives relating to facilities management.
  • Promote alignment with the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy and the UNFCCC Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Completion of secondary education.
  • Vocational training in facility management, building management, architecture, civil engineering, logistics, or a related field is highly desirable.

Experience

  • At least five (5) years of relevant experience in facility management, office space management, or property management.

OR

  • At least three (3) years of relevant experience with a first-level university degree in logistics, administration, architecture, or engineering.
  • Experience working in an international environment is an advantage.

Language Requirements:

  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Working knowledge of German and/or another UN official language is an asset.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid German driver’s licence with a clean driving record.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Indicative net monthly salary: EUR 4,455, plus applicable UN benefits.
