Main Purpose:

Oversees and manages the overall risk landscape of Econet Telecom Lesotho (Including SEFS), develops and implements a robust risk management strategy to safeguard the organization’s interests, assets, and stakeholders. This role includes business continuity management, combined assurance model and it involves identifying, evaluating, reporting and overseeing the Company’s external and internal risks across various business functions, as well as formulating strategies to mitigate and manage these risks effectively while ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards.

Major Tasks:

  • Strategic Planning and Development of Risk Management Framework:
  • Participates in the development and implementation of ETL’s 3 to 5 year business strategy
  • Develops the Enterprise-wide Risk Governance Framework and Structures for ETL to identify and effectively manage all key risk exposures
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive enterprise risk management strategy that aligns with both ETL business objectives and risk appetite
  • Design and implement a robust Enterprise Risk Management framework, including risk registers, risk appetite statements, and risk reporting mechanisms
  • Establish risk management policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Identify and prioritize key risk categories based on organizational objectives and priorities
  • Develop and continuously update the Business Continuity Management Policy and Strategy
  • Enterprise Risk Management:
  • Liaise with Executive Management and coordinate the identification, assessment and classification of enterprise-wide risks through various tools, systems and frameworks
  • Develop and monitor the strategic, operational and projects risk profiles
  • Facilitate Internal Maturity Risk assessment
  • Liaise with Internal Audit to ensure that significant risks identified by internal audit are incorporated in the risk register and analysed for priority, likelihood and impact
  • Provide risk trainings to new employees and do quarterly refreshers to promote advocacy of risk management within ETL
  • Analyse and advise on new products, business opportunities, projects and other investments to drive ETL in achieving key strategic objectives
  • Undertake a risk classification, prioritization and evaluation of impact and likelihood to come up with a log of risks to be managed by ETL Management
  • Ensure development of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and related thresholds for identified risk to ensure that risk is managed within the ETL risk appetite
  • Prepares the Enterprise Risk Management Report and present it to the Board Audit & Risk Committee during quarterly meetings
  • Risk Governance and Compliance:
  • Establish and maintain risk governance policies, procedures, and frameworks to promote consistent risk management practices
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards in both risk management and internal audit activities
  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, and other internal functions to address risk-related compliance matters
  • Crisis and Business Continuity Management:
  • Oversee crisis management and business continuity plans to effectively respond to unexpected events and disruptions
  • Coordinate the development of Business Continuity Plans
  • Facilitate testing of the newly developed Business Continuity Plans
  • Reports to the Board Audit Committee on the status of the company’s business continuity management program and as part of the enterprise-wide risk management framework.
  • Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of risk management and internal audit professionals.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages continuous learning and professional growth
  • Continuously evaluate performance of assigned employees and follow up on mismatches
  • Manage the unit’s budget and approve expenses
  • Direct plans to ensure that department reaches agreed goals and objectives, meets staff on a pre-agreed basis, identifies and agrees key performance areas, key objectives/tasks, and action plans

Educational Qualifications and Related Experience:

  • Postgraduate Degree in Risk Management, Accounting or Finance, Certified Internal Auditor, Chartered Accountant, or equivalent. MBA will be an added advantage
  • 8 to 10 years of experience risk management in a large enterprise dealing in a multi-disciplinary environment with approximately 5 years in a managerial position

  • Expert knowledge of Corporate Governance, Auditing, and Investigations
  • Advanced knowledge of operations of a telecom company
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory and policies
  • Advanced managerial skills with ability to manage and develop staff
  • Advanced ability to identify, communicate and ensure implementation of key strategies and objectives
  • Advanced ability to analyze and solve complex problems to achieve the correct outcomes
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills and ability to prepare reports
  • Intermediate skills with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
