General Manager
(Collections / Staff Management / Deal Origination / Operations Management)
Location: Maseru, Lesotho
Job Description
The General Manager (GM) will, in conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), play a lead role in the day‑to‑day running of the business in Lesotho. The role provides direction and leadership towards achieving the organisation’s strategic business plan objectives and annual goals.
Responsibilities
Product and System Knowledge
- Ensure full understanding of the organisation’s operating systems and applications and act as custodian of product and system knowledge
- Ensure all staff are appropriately trained and updated on product and system knowledge
Deal Inflows and Processing
- Ensure staff are fully trained on deal origination processes
- Ensure all client applications and deals per branch and per agent are logged correctly
- Monitor and manage deal volumes and speed of processing
- Monitor deal turnaround time from receipt to disbursement
- Ensure all deals are loaded onto CDAS with correct instalments and terms before disbursement
- Facilitate audits of all deals to ensure compliance and zero tolerance for audit errors
- Ensure consolidation deals are correctly recorded, cheques collected and deposited, third‑party settlement letters prepared, uploads cancelled, and disbursements monitored
- Ensure bank letters for disbursements are prepared, signed, and delivered on time
- Liaise with service centres in cases of delays to prevent client complaints
Collections Functions
- Maintain overall responsibility for effective management of the credit control function
- Daily monitoring and management of collections activities and results
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly collections reports
Operational Management
- Develop and implement sales and marketing campaigns to drive loan book growth cost‑effectively
- Maintain responsibility for the back‑office team and all related functions
- Monitor internal and external customer service levels
- Recommend strategies for improving departmental operations
- Maintain updated knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and act as custodian
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports, including oversight of internal audit reports
- Arrange management meetings and provide strategic input
- Manage company assets including vehicles and computer equipment
- Monitor pool car usage, vehicle servicing, tax clearances, and insurance expiry
- Oversee day‑to‑day administrative functions
Staff Management
- Conduct staff training and provide ongoing support
- Manage performance of all team members
- Draft, monitor, and evaluate KPIs
- Conduct performance appraisals and manage poor performance
- Maintain and develop organisational culture, values, and reputation
IT and Physical Environment
- Oversee IT functions and physical work environment in consultation with Group IT
- Resolve system‑related issues timeously
Support to CEO
- Provide operational support to the CEO as required
- Fulfil CEO duties during absence, leave, or incapacitation
Requirements: Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor of Commerce or other relevant tertiary qualification (essential)
- Postgraduate qualification is advantageous
- Minimum of 5–10 years’ relevant working experience
- Extensive experience in the financial services sector (essential)
- Microfinance industry experience is advantageous
- Solid management, accounting, and legal skills
- Strong knowledge of Lesotho and microfinance laws, particularly microlending
- Excellent written and verbal command of English
