The SA Children’s Home is a residential Child and Youth Care Centre with 44 child residents of school-going ages. It is situated in Gardens, Cape Town.

The SA Children seeks to appoint General Manager to be based in Cape Town.

Report to:The Governing Board of the Children’s Home.

The ideal candidate is an experienced administrator with strong managerial- and people skills, who has an empathetic understanding of traumatised children and their (often challenging) conduct. The Manager does not work directly with the children. The person manages everything needed to provide the children with a safe, wholesome and caring home environment – the finances, systems, staff, programs, vehicles, premises, volunteers, etc.

Minimum requirements:
Some training and skills regarding children and/or youth
Strong administrative-, management- and people skills
Intermediate Computing and Applications skills
A Code B or EB Driver’s License
Must be willing to obtain a PrDP (Professional Driving Permit)
Must be able to drive a 15-seater Minibus
At least 10 years work experience
Advantageous for the position:
A valid PrDP (Professional Driving Permit)
Management experience (disciplinary action; financial management; people management)
A qualification focussed on children in the field of education / special needs education, social work, auxiliary social work, psychology / educational psychology, ECD, nursing, counselling, etc.
A business-related qualification
Experience in fund-raising
Experience- and skills in marketing and social media
Experience in running a Not-for-Profit Organisation (NPO)
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to- and engaging with the Governing Board
Policy development and legislative compliance
Administration of the SA Children’s Home
Effectively manage the staff and regular service providers
Disciplinary action
Uphold the values and actively shape the culture
Liaise and network with relevant stakeholders
Financial management, budgeting and sustainability
Asset management and maintenance of building and vehicles
Donations, fundraising, and marketing
