Position: Gender and Human Rights Officer
Reports to: Programmes Manager
Office Location: Leribe
Job Summary: The Gender and Human Rights Officers will be responsible for gender mainstreaming and proactive technical support to the organization. S/He will work with all departments and partners to ensure that gender equity principles are incorporated into to the policies and activities. S/He will plan, implement and follow up on gender related activities and provide support to counterpart staff, partners on mainstreaming gender in their programs and activities.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
– Coordinate and oversee gender and human rights project interventions and initiatives,
– Ensure gender integration in the day to day activities,
– Support interventions that promote the human rights with particular attention to Key and Vulnerable population groups including the LGBTQI+ community,
– Provide direction on gender equality issues particularly in programme development, support and advocacy,
– Assist in developing operation approaches to mainstream human rights and implement human rights based approach in programming,
– Designs and maintains database to track project progress on aspects around gender and human rights,
– Develop and maintain relations with stakeholders including government and partner organisation and advice on human rights issues and policies,
– Engage with the project team on implementation of gender and human rights activities,
– Collect information pertaining to human rights violations, keep abreast of issues/events and provide up to date information,
– Design and implement technical processes of developing guidelines and procedures to enhance human rights safeguards for mission in line with national, regional and international instruments,
– Prepare reports and correspondence relating to human rights violations,
– Assist in promoting human rights awareness in the community through mobilizations,
– Liaise with other stakeholders with the aim of preventing human rights violations.
Qualifications, Experience and Basic Requirements
– University Degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Developments Studies or related field with some focus on gender studies/social inclusion,
– At least Two (2) years’ working experience on gender equality and social inclusion programme/project,
– Demonstrated knowledge and hands on experience in programmes/project supporting promotion and protection of the rights of the key and vulnerable populations including the LGBTQI+ community,
– Working knowledge of or experience in the field of LGBTQI+ advocacy,
– Possess strong gender technical skills and experience,
– Facilitation, mentoring and training skills,
– Good analytical and report writing skills,
– Good oral and written communication skills,
– Must have a valid Driver’s Licence with at least 3 years experience and be comfortable with manual transmission.
