JOB PURPOSE

Responsible for sourcing new funders, working closely with the Programmes team, developing relationships with current and potential funders, assisting, supporting and reporting to the Institutional Funding Manager.

Assists and supports the Institutional Funding Manager with the development and implementation an integrated fundraising strategy which is targeted at certain categories of funders in order to secure short, medium and long term funding for Oxfam South Africa.

Using the Funder Scoping, Researches and identifies prospective funders funders in order to develop new sources of funding and follows through by telephonic and email contact and supporting the proposal development process for funding.

Conducts meetings with prospective and current funders, working closely with Institutional Funding Manager.

Maintains relationships with existing funders and develops new sources of funding and new funders.

Provides the Institutional Funding Manager with reports as required

Funder Management System:
Assists in the set up and maintenance of Funder Management System, ensuring that the contact details for the relevant funders are continually updated; co-operates with the Programme teams in order to continue the development of the funder database and to ensure that the funder database is up to date.

Provides support to the Public Fundraising portfolio, updating information and communicating with individual funders

Assists with presentations to affiliates, corporate, trusts and foundations regarding fund raising when required, to assist in developing and growing the portfolios

Works with Communications Manager and Institutional Funding Manager to support Public Fundraising Communication. 

Assists with the ethical screening administration

OTHER DUTIES
Keeps abreast of developments in the fundraising

Ensures that all administrative requirements are fulfilled on a regular basis.

Is willing and able to work outside normal office hours (e.g. at evening functions, weekends etc.) when required.

Works closely under the guidance of the Institutional funding Manager as well as other Oxfam South Africa team members and any external stakeholders to ensure efficient and appropriate measures are in place for maximum Fundraising benefit to Oxfam South Africa

Provides support to the Fundraising and Business Development committee and the Ethical committee as required

This job function is dynamic and may be developed from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS

Tertiary qualification essential.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Should have dealt at a supervisory level and have the presence and communication skills to deal with senior representatives/executives of funder organisations. Previous experience in fundraising essential, including grants and donor funding. Must have valid driver’s licence and be willing to travel.

Knowledge:  Budget and financial understanding essential; Competence in proposal writing; Basic public relations principles; MS Office knowledge with database experience; general administrative experience.

Skills:          Builds relationships, excellent communication skills, decision making skills, interpersonal skills, listening skills, good telephone manner, negotiation skills, office and document administration, time management, ability to deal with all levels of persons; and be able to research details around existing and potential funders.
