Animal Rescue Organisation (ARO), originally known as the Voluntary Animal Rescue Organisation (VAR) was established in 1986 to combat the neglect and abuse of animals in the Old Crossroads area. At that time, when riots kept many people out of the indigent and informal settlements, VAR opted to go into these areas in need to reach the suffering animals.

Animal Rescue Organisation (ARO) seeks to appoint the Fundraising Coordinator to be based in Cape Town, 5 Olieboom Road, Ottery.

Applicant should have excellent communications skills, be a team player, and love animals. The role includes digital, traditional and in-person fundraising. Event/project management skills are a must. Must have valid drivers license.

Capacity:Permanent

Responsible to:Head of Fundraising & Communications

Salary R12k-R16k experience dependent.

Key function:

Fundraising with corporates and individuals – from proposal writing to individual donor feedback. Good written communication essential.
Donor Relations – maintaining and creating long lasting relationships with donors.
Events Coordination – planning and implementing events from small in-store campaigns to large in person events. Events often take place out of work hours.
General Fundraising Administration – keeping track of all donors contact information, donation history and thank you letters.
Communication Support – assisting with stories for social media.
Assisting Head of Fundraising and Communications with overall running of Fundraising Department.

Passionate about animals and NGO work.
Pragmatic approach to working in animal welfare.
Able think tactically, strategically and methodically.
High work ethic and be driven to achieve targets.
Must be prepared to give more than ‘nine to five’.
Well organised and effective time management skills.
Positively influence donors.
Service orientated approach to dealing with donors.
Warm, outgoing personality.
Must love animals, and be happy to have them in your environment.

Qualifications/experience

South African ID
Reside in Cape Town
Ability to communicate in English and Afrikaans.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Matric Certificate.
Valid driver’s license.
Must have own transport.
Tertiary Education in Marketing and Communications
Proven track record in NGO sector in Fundraising
Well spoken, well-groomed and presentable.
Experience in project management.
Event planning an advantage.
Computer literate in MS Office and database administration
