Position/Role: Developmental Editor

Crooked Lane Books & Alcove Press are looking for a knowledgeable, insightful, and detail orientated freelance Developmental Editor with experience editing crime fiction and/or women’s/book club fiction. A love for stories and all the many ways that they can be put together is a must.
Tasks include the evaluation and developmental editing of top commercial fiction with strong sales potential, line editing, and light author support. The editor will oversee manuscript after acquisitions, through edits, and until the manuscript it submitted to CLB/AP’s production department. The editor is expected to have thorough knowledge of the current trade fiction marketplace as well as a keen understanding of one or more of the following genres: crime fiction, women’s fiction, and book club fiction. Tasks will not include copyediting or proof reading.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- 3-5 years of experience in a developmental editorial role for a trade publishing house.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Highly organized.
- Proficiency with Microsoft and Google software, especially Microsoft Word and Google Docs.
