ROLE PURPOSE:

Financial responsibility for the operational performance of Group Digital Technology by actively managing and monitoring business performance and implementing corrective action when necessary. Providing financial guidance, governance and oversight. In addition but not limited to, the oversight and management of the annual impairment review of Operations.


KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:


Financial management and Administration


Group Digital Technology (GDT)

  • Develop a deep understanding of the GDT strategy and provide full financial analysis and support for the business plan supporting the strategy including projected savings, future paybacks and total cost of ownership models for all business units
  • Provides financial analysis and guidance to support key decisions and initiatives that may include, profitability, expense efficiency and value creation ideas and new IT related investment business cases
  • Prepares management information and insights to guide decision making and evaluates financial performance vs. plan, prior periods, and the strategic plan
  • Collaborates and works across the various GDT cost centres to ensure the integrity of the financials and ensures sound controls and procedures
  • Supports reporting and analysis for additional constituencies, including the Board of Directors, Steering committees and various regulatory agencies.
  • Lead Stakeholder engagements with Business Units in collaboration with GDT to understand and agree on all related inter-company recharges and ensure that all recharges support the relevant business unit’s strategy and ROI plans.

Procure to pay management for GDT

  • Develop robust internal Procure to Pay processes to ensure that there is no service interruptions relating to payment of invoices while ensuring that there is proper governance over the entire process
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with policies, procedures and processes for the Procure to Pay (P2P) process
  • Support operational managers with all procure to pay processes and queries

Monthly review of management accounts and reporting

  • Submission of the current month’s GL and budget/forecast on the last working day of the month to GDT cost centre owners to review and submit any corrections and accruals
  • Monthly review of GDT management accounts
  • Analyses actual expenditure, explains variances, and determines options in the use of available budget to meet real needs
  • Preparation of detailed analysis and commentary for monthly management review meetings
  • Support operational managers with accounting principles and queries related to monthly management accounts
  • Preparation of the monthly balance sheet commentary for Holdings
  • Completion of the mini-packs for submission to Group
  • Review of creditors reconciliations

Budgeting and forecasting for GDT

  • Work with GDT to build their annual budgets and forecasts
  • Manage and co-ordinate finance review for budgets and forecast
  • Review and finalise finance templates for budget and forecast submission
  • Support operational managers with assumptions, accounting principles and queries related to budget and forecast inclusive of their GDT workings files
  • Attending meetings with the respective affiliates to discuss the agreed budgets/forecasts and harmonizing the process to ensure it runs smoothly
  • Assists in the development of plans, policies and processes for the accounting, budgeting and, where applicable, charging of resources and services, including the definition of cost models and charging models.

Fixed Assets and the Annual Impairment Review:

  • Co-ordination of the annual impairment review for Holdings, SA Commercial and PE and ensuring timeous submission and approval according to the Approvals Framework
  • Strategic Management and review of intellectual property (IP) for Holdings ensuring that all records are accurately maintained and in line with IFRS standards and pass scrutiny by auditors
  • Update of the IP register following the impairment review and review of the related impairment journals
  • Review of the monthly fixed assets and IP entries
  • Compilation of the quarterly and annual forecasts and budgets associated to Holdings assets
  • Ensure proper maintenance of the asset register (both IP and PPE)
  • Review of the fixed asset balance sheet recons
  • Any other additional activities as may be required from time to time

Risk management

  • Maintain a strong internal control environment
  • Actively contribute to the input to the risk register and internal control frameworks design and implementation
  • Ability to work with GDT staff and drive process/information improvement initiatives

Projects

  • Review of the GDT capex motivations and approvals
  • Engagement with PMO manager on capex queries/assistance when required
  • Ability to review project costs from a financial perspective and to facilitate and drive the improvement of costs though continuous improvement initiatives
  • Agrees and manages all GDT financial budgets and targets, ensuring that there is adequate funding for all targets and plans
  • Preparation of IRR and NPV calculations to estimate the profitability of potential investments

Stakeholder management

  • Liaison with internal customers to ensure that communication channels operate efficiently and issues are dealt with timeously
  • Develop an understanding of the GDT strategy and provide full financial analysis and support for the business plan supporting the strategy including projected savings, future paybacks and total cost of ownership models
  • Quarterly forecasts and prepare related Group reports.
  • Strong skills in corporate cost cross-charges and cost allocation methodologies

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Accounting and / or Finance
  • CA(SA) or CIMA
  • More than 5 years post articles experience
  • Experience in the Information Technology industry is desirable
  • Previous SAP experience beneficial
  • Strong operations background displaying a sound financial and commercial sense of the mechanics and key drivers within group operations and specifically information and digital technology
  • Previous experience in the pharmaceutical or similar industry is advantageous
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to simplify complex business and related information and digital technology processes into manageable components which can be tracked and measured
  • Ability to review business processes and structures with a view to optimizing efficiencies and the cost of doing business

  • Corporate operating and reporting policies and procedures
  • Computer literate – Advanced in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint and a fully integrated computer system e.g. ORACLE, Baan, SAP, Management Information systems etc.
