About the Role
The Foreman supervises General Workers, reports to the General Manager, and ensures that tasks are completed and safety rules are followed.
Key Responsibilities
Supervising and Leading a Team
- Direct and assign tasks to a crew of general laborers and skilled tradespeople.
- Provide clear instructions and ensure workers understand their assignments.
- Motivate and lead the team to achieve project goals.
- Monitor individual and team performance, provide feedback, and address issues.
Work Planning and Coordination
- Understand project plans, specifications, and schedules.
- Plan daily or weekly work activities for the team.
- Coordinate with other foremen, supervisors, and trades to ensure smooth workflow.
- Ensure necessary materials, tools, and equipment are available at the worksite.
Ensuring Safety Compliance
- Enforce safety regulations and procedures on-site.
- Conduct safety briefings and toolbox talks.
- Identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Ensure workers use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Investigate and report any accidents or incidents.
Monitoring Progress and Quality
- Track work progress against the schedule.
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards.
- Identify and address defects or rework requirements.
- Report progress to the superintendent or project manager.
Problem-Solving
- Identify and resolve day-to-day worksite challenges.
- Find practical solutions to keep work moving forward.
Communication and Reporting
- Communicate effectively with crew members, other supervisors, and management.
- Provide regular updates on progress, issues, and resource needs.
- Complete necessary paperwork, such as timesheets, daily reports, and safety checklists.
Equipment and Material Management
- Oversee proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Ensure materials are stored and handled correctly.
- Report any damaged or missing equipment or materials.
Training and Development
- Provide on-the-job training and guidance to less experienced workers.
- Identify training needs within the team.
Qualifications
- COSC / Any Commercial Diploma
- Additional short courses will be an added advantage.
