U.S. Embassy Maseru – Foreign Service National Investigator
The U.S. Embassy in Maseru is accepting applications for the Foreign Service National Investigator position.
Duties
Working in the Regional Security Office (RSO), the Foreign Service National Investigator (FSNI) conducts security investigations and maintains liaison with local police and other security and law enforcement officials. The FSNI assists the RSO team in coordinating protection for post personnel and visiting U.S. government officials, obtaining and reporting on information concerning potential security threats to post personnel, facilities, or information. The position reports directly to the Assistant Regional Security Officer.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements
All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a:
• Security certificate; or
• Public Trust security clearance.
All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.
Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (12 weeks upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications) or their candidacy may end.
Education Requirements
A minimum of two (2) years of college or University studies is required.

Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in law enforcement, military, private security, or investigation is required.
Language:
• Level III English Language is required
• Level IV Sesotho Language is required
Language may be tested.
Job Knowledge:
• Good working knowledge of the local and regional judicial system including criminal laws and procedures, and laws regarding marriage, divorce, adoption and military service.
• Detailed knowledge of investigative techniques and security databases.
Skills and Abilities:
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to conduct investigations with utmost discretion.
- Ability to draft correspondence and reports in English.
- Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook applications.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
The opening and closing dates are November 18, 2025 and December 12, 2025 respectively.
