OnePower (1PWR) is seeking a Fleet Manager to support a major effort in electrification of rural villages in Lesotho. As OnePower electrifies villages with solar minigrids, our team will require support from a varied and growing fleet of vehicles including bakkies, 3-axel trucks, telehandlers, tractors, etc.
What you will do:
- Establish, execute, and report on preventive and scheduled maintenance program for vehicle fleet and construction heavy machinery to maximize uptime and minimize costs
- Prioritize and manage the execution of corrective maintenance repairs at HQ and in the field
- Report on status and health of vehicle fleet at daily, weekly, and monthly cadence
- Manage fleet management software tools and platforms
- Provide direct supervision to qualified professionals and skilled technical employees at the entry and intermediate levels
- Develop and implement vehicle and equipment booking/allocation and control systems to serve internal needs and ensure compliance with equipment checklists and operator approvals
- Define and maintain driving standards for employees, ensuring compliance with all aspects of vehicle use, repair, and maintenance
- Develop and implement training modules for vehicles and equipment use and care
- Perform total cost of ownership analysis
What we look for:
- Qualifying technical degree and at least 5 years of experience as a mechanic or managing a team of mechanics (experience working and driving in rural off-road areas highly desirable)
- Demonstrated subject matter expertise in vehicle maintenance, repair, and operation
- Ability to prioritize urgent issues and take action
- Familiarity with transportation scheduling and management software
- Strong emphasis on safety and holistic risk mitigation
- Excellent leadership skills, including goal-setting, motivation and training
- Timely and sound decision making in a busy and complex operating environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Sesotho
