Currently we have the opportunity for a dynamic
Financial Controller – Health Systems (HS) to join our team in Johannesburg.

In this role you will be the responsible for leading the finance function for Health System South Africa, with focus on being a business partner for the General Manager of Health Systems Southern Africa, ensuring financially sound decision making and driving financial performance (P&L accountability).

You will report to the Head of Finance, Africa.


You are responsible for:

  • Drive financial performance (P&L, Market share, growth, working capital oversight and overdues management)
  • Prepare and help drive Health Systems (HS) South Africa’s business plan/ Annual Operating Plan (AOP) for new opportunities and investment strategies
  • Drive HS South Africa monthly, quarterly and year end closing activities and perform final close reviews, Monthly Performance Review, reporting etc
  • Drive analysis of business performance: sales, pricing, margin, credit management and costs
  • Engage with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives. Make decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensure effective achievement of objectives
  • Develop cash management strategies for Philips South Africa Commercial bank accounts, oversee treasury operations activities for South Africa including processes and transaction flows in line with Philips treasury guidelines. Ensure SARB approvals and requirements are adhered to for all transactions
  • Ensure strong and efficient internal control environment, and sign off on the financial statements of the entity
  • Review and sign off on Balance Sheet Reviews
  • Manage relationships with other finance pillars, gathering inputs and jointly ensuring financial control
  • Help drive processes and standardized approach for finance and non-finance processes
  • Drive HS South Africa productivity assessments and analysis to identify key areas for synergy/ efficiency improvements


To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:

  • Over 7 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree/ CA (SA) with completed articles or CIMA, ACCA, CPA, CFA
  • Progressive experience in similar position in a highly matrixed multinational will be an added advantage
  • Strong excel skills and SAP knowledge preferred
  • Strong reporting/analytical skills with strong business and finance background.
  • Excellent business orientation – ability to understand and explain business results and translate into financial consequences
  • Excellent communications, interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relations in a complex organisation
  • Solid Operational and Strategic mindset
  • Going into the details (not a ‘managerial’ attitude)
