Sentebale hereby invites suitably qualified and competent Basotho to apply for the vacant position of Financial Accountant.

Job purpose

The Accountant will effectively be responsible for the overall implementation of the finance strategy and shall have a responsibility for all financial transactions in the business and ensuring that they have been properly accounted for and accurately reflect the charity’s accounting processes.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Director Finance and Admin, the Accountant shall be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Serve as first point of contact for any finance related queries from programme staff, management, donors, vendors or auditors;
  • Capture data in the accounting system in an accurate and ti mely manner
  • Verify that all Sentebale expenditure records are accurate and in accordance with Sentebale procedures and donor guidelines
  • Prepare and file accurate LRA reports each month, including PAYE returns, withholding tax and VAT claims.
  • Ensure all filing and reporting deadlines are met.
  • Fixed Assets management and accounting
  • Assist management with other duties as assigned
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements relating to all Sentebale activities
  • Offer finance and reporting support to the Sentebale programme and administration teams
  • Perform ledger and bank reconciliations on a monthly basis
  • Preparation of budgets and reviews
  • Facilitate cash receipts and disbursements in accordance with Sentebale policy

Qualifications and experience

  • B.A. degree in Accounting, General Accounting or degree in Business Studies
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in a position with similar responsibilities, preferably with an international or local NGO, or a financial/banking institution
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Work, Excel, PowerPoint) and online conferencing platforms
  • Comfortable and professional in situations that require high levels of confidentiality or sensitivity;
  • Knowledge of accounting software (Xero preferred)

Attributes

  • Adherence and knowledge of health, child protection, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) and education issues;
  • Excellent record of working children and young people. No past allegations of SEA;
  • Excellent analytical skills with ability to detect and report inconsistencies
  • Commitment to accuracy with great attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills with sensitivity to issues of cultural diversity
  • Solid sense of personal ethics and integrity, good judgement, and passion for the mission of Sentebale
  • Ability to function with mature judgement, tact and diplomacy ensuring that Sentebale Policies and procedures are consistently complied with at all times;
