Position: Finance Officer

Reports to: Senior Finance Officer

Background

Centre for Impacting Lives is a local non-governmental, Faith based, non-profit organization working to chart a new cOurse of life for the most vulnerable and less privileged in African society. The CIL works with children, Youth and women through various OVC projects. CIL is currently a partner in the Karabo ea Bophelo Project.

Duties and Responsibilities:

– Prepare monthly financial statements and maintain accurate accounting records

– Capture transactions in the system on a daily basis ensuring expenses are charged to relevant accounting codes

– Ensure filing is done properly with all supporting documents attached to relevant documents

– Ensures all payments are processed on time to suppliers and to staff members for carrying out activities, and follows up on advances made to staff for liquidation

– Works closely with the field country staff to always be knowledgeable on changes made which may affect the finance and admin department

– Guides and assist the daily activities of the Finance and Admin assistant

– Maintain the cash and bank balances to meet the ongoing needs of the progarammes by

continually tracking and transferring funds in order to maintain sufficient cash levels to cover the programmes obligations at all times

– Produce the bank reconciliations on a monthly basis and ensure outstanding transactions are

followed up

– Prepares monthly financial reports and ensures reporting is done on time

– Prepares monthly payments to non-payroll staff and follows up with the bounce back amounts

– Oversees the petty cash handled by the Finance assistant

– Assist with internal/external audits

– Provides effective and timely administrative services to the programmes as authorized and guides the Admin assistant on administrative matters

– Ensures that the office assets are kept safe and used appropriately and ensure the asset register is always updated.

Qualifications and Work experience:

– A degree in Accounting or General Accounting or equivalent

– At least 3 years’ working experience

– Experience of working for USAID projects is preferable

– PASTEL experience

Key Competencies:

– Good knowledge of computer applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

– Good knowledge in Pastel accounting package

– Skills in financial and administrative procedures

– Ability to communicate and explain accounting jargon in simple terms

– Good skills in financial reporting

– Problem solving skills
