Job Title: Finance Officer

Reports to: Senior Accountant

Location: National Office – Maseru, Lesotho

Job Summary: The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Finance Department by managing daily accounting tasks, ensuring that all financial resources that come into the organization are recorded, tracked, and accounted for in a timely and transparent manner and used in fulfilment of the core mission of the organization.

Main Responsibilities

• Handling the day-to-day accounting transactions from payment Request file to month end reporting

• Verify supporting documentation with each payment requested.

• Ensure that appropriate authorization and documentation is obtained for all expenditures prior processing.

• Process cheques and transfers ensuring timely payment of bills.

• Resolve all invoicing issues.

• Manage the petty cash function: issue petty cash and ensure timely replenishment

• Work on VAT claims and ensure timely submission to LRA, follow up on reimbursement and capture them in the system (SUN)

• Coordinate Banking Activities: Coordinates deposits and withdraws from Habitat for Humanity Lesotho accounts as requested by the Senior National Office Accountant.

• Maintain cash balances and keep track of actual cash balances on hand.

• Maintain an effective filing system for financial transactions.

• Review and process travel & expense reports and follow up on employee advances.

• Ensures financial data is captured and posted into computerized accounting systems (Sun System) on a regular basis.

• Set up payments for automated bank transfers.

• Assist the Senior accountant with monthly closings.

• Work on balance sheet accounts reconciliation monthly

• Prepare analysis of accounts as requested

• Administer accounts receivable and accounts payable

• Monitor and resolve bank issues including fee anomalies and check differences

• Prepare bank reconciliations monthly.

• Maintain the fixed asset register.

• Assist in the preparation for the year-end audit including providing all necessary documents.

• Other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

• Minimum qualification needed is Degree/Diploma in Finance or Accounting related field.

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills required

• The minimum relevant work experience is 3 years of accounting

• Technical accounting skills and understanding of accounting software; SUN Accounting System

• Competent in MS Office (Excel, Word and Outlook.

• Good understanding accounting policies, standards and associated regulatory issues

• Good analytical and organizational skills, attention to details and determination to meet deadlines

• Good communication skills (both written and oral) in Sesotho and English;

• Honesty and strong ethics are required in order to be successful in this position;

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team;

• Demonstrated capacity and willingness to learn – open to learning new ways of doing things;

• Willingness to affirm the Christian principles of Habitat for Humanity Lesotho

• Work experience in the INGO will be an added advantage.
