Masifundise is a civil society organisation with a long track record in the small-scale fishing sector. Its aim is to promote and advance Food Sovereignty in small-scale fishing communities in South Africa, and globally. It aims to do this by empowering fishers and community-based activists to become agents of change within their own communities, organisations, and social movements, as well as facilitating and strengthening participatory governance, enabling fishing communities to secure their social, economic, and political rights and promoting principles of social, economic and environmental justice and the right to autonomy and sovereignty of civil society.

Masifundise seeks to employ at Finance Assistant to support our Finance unit to be based in Cape Town, South Africa

The successful candidate must have a positive attitude and emotional intelligence. The ability to adapt, have resilience and good communication skills is imperative. Further to this, we are looking for someone with integrity, excellent mathematical skills, and an understanding of data privacy standards. As a member of the Finance Unit, you will work closely with the Finance and Deputy Finance Managers as well as with the Office Administrator.

Expected starting date:  15 February 2022

Responsibilities:
Organisational Budgets :
Statutory Payments:
Prepare and submit to SARS, the Department of Labor and Social development.
Support the Finance Manager with the development of the annual organisational plans and budgets.
Prepare budgets, monitor spending and exercise budgetary control over operational and programme budgets.
Implement budget revisions as instructed by the FM
Identify and alert the FM to anticipated variances in line items in excess of 10% of the approved operational and programme budgets
Prepare other project budgets as indicated by the FM
Payments:
To process all local and international payments.
Capture, verify and release payments
Collect and file all payment requisitions and supporting documents
Ensure that Proof of Payments are sent to service providers

Other Tasks:
Any other tasks assigned by the Financial Manager
Work as a member of the Finance team, as requested, in consultation with the Financial Manager
Requirements:
Degree in accounting or finance.
Excellent knowledge of MS Excel, Pastel accounting & Pastel payroll.
Proficient in MS Office
Strong knowledge of bookkeeping.
Good organizational skills.
Strong analytical skills.
Detail-oriented.
Excellent time management skills
Ability to work collaboratively as part of the wider team
