Rural-Self-Help Development Association (RSDA) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Field Supervisor based in Mafeteng/Thaba -Tseka.

RSDA, is an NGO registered in Lesotho works that to empower rural Basotho communities to develop their self-initiative, self-determination and self-responsibility, engage in sustainable agriculture, natural resource management and other initiatives to graduate out of extreme poverty. This position is required in partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) under the project “Community Engagement for ICM in Lesotho” funded by the GIZ.

Job Summary

Field Supervisor is the face of RSDA in the field and facilitates implementation of the project activities in the assigned area and the primary source of information from RSDA to beneficiary communities and vice versa. He/she is the farmer recruiter, trainer, facilitator, advisor, a mentor and mediator and will be based in the field in support of mandate to serve the roll-out of RSDA’s vision. Therefore the Field Supervisor should be a good communicator, community mobilizer and be able to provide technical and advisory service.

Field Supervisor is responsible for the success of the project field level milestones, day to day field operations guided by Project Implementation Plans and agreements with RSDA’s Funding Partners. In addition, the Field Supervisor is an important part of RSDA’s team and contribute to the overall success and continuous improvement of assigned RSDA services in assigned areas and thus the position requires hard work, intelligence and professionalism.

Qualifications and competences

  • Degree level in Agriculture, Natural Resource Management.
  • At least 2 years’ experience with NGOs on development projects especially living and working with off-grid and rural based communities.
  • Proficient in MS Office package (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Respect and sensitive to people in the community (knows when to be humble and/or assertive.
  • Be able to deal with the unexpected and uncertain situations, ability to improvise, creativity, initiative and foresight in the field.
  • Values and acknowledges communities’ skills, abilities and knowledge
  • Make sure that no one feels isolated from the group for any reason such as age, gender, background or education level.
  • Producing coherent field reports in a regular basis.
