OnePower (1PWR) is seeking a fixed term Field site Contractor to support major effort in electrification of rural villages in Lesotho. The Contractor will join the Minigrid Facilities Construction team leading installation of equipment, infrastructure, and facilities to support larger field teams, mechanical completion and commissioning of power generation, storage, cabling for interconnections, circuit protections, sensors, SCADA, utilities, and security equipment and systems.
What you will do:
- Installation of equipment, including pre-fab buildings, fences, PV panels, batteries, inverters, cabling for interconnections, circuit protections, sensors such as weather stations, SCADA, utilities, and security equipment and systems
- Interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and standard operating procedures to implement designs and provide necessary feedback based on encountered site conditions and as-built results
- Assessing site conditions to ensure they are suitable for facilities installations
- Measuring and marking areas for installation
- Making adjustments / improvements to site conditions to accommodate the works
- Coordination with company planning, procurement, and logistics teams for delivery of project outcomes
- Timely completion of work
- Timely completion of technical and financial documentation and submission of reports to supervisor, manager, and/or finance team as is appropriate
- Familiarizing and usage of a variety of technical equipment and tools
- Always ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations
- Staying up to date with safety codes and advancements in construction
- Significant work at multiple field sites (approximately 90% of time) will be required
What we look for:
- Qualifying diploma/degree in Mechanical Engineering/related degree with a minimum of 2 years work experience excluding internships
- Demonstrated subject matter expertise in installation and construction
- Ability to prioritize multiple parallel workstreams and communicate/coordinate with other teams to achieve high level deliverables on time
- Ability to take direction from immediate Supervisor and Management
- Timely and sound decision making in a busy and complex operating environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Sesotho
