JOB SUMMARY

UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF SENIOR AGRICULTURAL ENGINEER, THE FIELD OPERATIONS MANAGER (F.O.M.) IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PREPARING WORK PLANS, REPORTS, BUDGETS ESTIMATES, AND DEVELOPS TRAINING PROGRAMMES. THE OFFICER IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL MACHINERY OPERATIONS COUNTRYWIDE ON THE OPERATION AREAS. CO-ORDINATION OF ALL MACHINERY SERVICES AND FIELD ACTIVITIES AND HARMONIZING THEM WITH WORKSHOP ACTIVITIES. CARRYING OUT REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE OF MACHINERY, APPRAISES AREA TECHNICAL OFFICERS (MECHANIZATION) ON JOB PERFORMANCE, DEVELOP DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION AND ASSISTS IN PROCUREMENT OF SPARES AND ACCESSORIES.

MAIN DUTIES

1.   WORKPLANS, BUDGET ESTIMATES AND REPORTS.

  1. Prepares work plans, budgets estimates and submits them to the Senior Agricultural Engineer (S.A.E.) to improve work performance.
    1.  Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports and submits them to Senior Agricultural Engineer (S.A.E.) to monitor and evaluate work progress.
    1.  Ensures that requirements for smooth provision of services for field operations are accordingly budgeted.

2. CO-ORDINATION OF FIELD OPERATIONS ACTIVITIES

2.1 Ensures proper distribution and allocation of machinery to all selected      operation areas.

2.2 Compiles and maintains the inventory of all machinery distribution, update periodically, held responsible and be accountable for their safe keeping.

2.3 Ensures proper planning of field operations in consultation with the Senior Agricultural Engineer and all the strategies for field operations.

2.4 Carryout settings and calibrations of farm machinery and implements to ensure efficient utilization of agricultural inputs.

2.5 Carryout assessment of agricultural machinery conditions periodically and recommends acquisition and disposal where possible.

3.0 CO-ORDINATION OF SERVICES, REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE OF AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT

3.1 Allocates technicians and mechanics to back stop districts for major   machinery repairs to ensure efficient operation of machinery and equipment.

3.2 Facilitates efficient distribution of spares and accessories for repairs and   maintenance of machinery and equipment at field level.

 3.3 Co-ordinates all machinery services and maintenance at field level and    harmonizing them with workshop activities.

4.0 ASSIGNMENT, MONITORING AND APPRAISAL OF THE WORK PERFORMANCE     OF AREA TECHNICAL OFFICERS (A.T.O.) MECHANIZATION.

4.1 Assigns duties to Area Technical Officers (Mechanization) in order to achieve set objectives.

4.2 Checks work performance in relation to the set standards, to ensure adherence to the set standards.

4.3 Conducts performance appraisals for all technical staff under his /her supervision.

5.0 IMPLEMENTS THE TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR AREA TECHNICAL   OFFICERS (MECHANIZATION).

5.1 Identifies training needs to ensure successful and timely training.

5.2 Identifies suitable candidates and prepares training time table to improve their capacity in performing their duties.

5.3 Ensures proper training of agricultural machinery operators on newly acquired machinery and equipment.

JOB SPECIFICATION

  • Degree in Agricultural Engineering/Mechanical Engineering or Degree in General Agriculture with emphasis on Farm Machinery/Mechanization or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

                                                            OR

  • Diploma in Agricultural Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering or Diploma in General Agriculture with emphasis on Agricultural Mechanization plus at least five (5) years’ experience in Agricultural machinery repairs, maintenance and supervision of field operations.
